【新聞英文】目擊者宣稱、研究指出、據報導等英文用法怎麼寫？

為了使報導更有信度（reliability）與效度（validity），
新聞媒體在撰寫文章的時候，都會在行文當中加上資訊出處（source）。
今天就要教你十種新聞英文裡面，
經常使用的「標注資料來源」的說法，
包含但不限於「目擊者宣稱、研究指出、據報導⋯⋯」等等，
讓你可以在英文作文裡面輕鬆應用！
之後接受採訪時，他／她說⋯⋯
When interviewed afterwards, he/she said…
本句多半用於前面描述和某個人有關的事件，
而隨後在採訪這個人的時候，
他進一步強化此項說法，或是對此發表相反意見。
並且此一句型有多種變化型態可以應用，
像是：
- Interviewed afterwards, he/she said...
- When someone was interviewed afterwards, he/she said...
- When interviewed afterwards, he/she stated / mentioned / praised / ......
【例句】
When Amy Wu was interviewed afterwards, she mentioned that her Japanese teacher helped her finish the fabulous work.
隨後在Amy Wu接受採訪時，她提到她的日文老師幫助她完成這項出色的傑作。
【例句】
When interviewed afterwards, he refused to say anything about the child.
在之後的採訪裡，他拒絕談論任何和小孩有關的事。
【例句】
Interviewed afterwards, she said the company would not hire candidates like him anymore.
在隨後的採訪中，她提到公司將不再錄用像他這樣的人選。
目擊者（證人）指出／描述⋯⋯
Eyewitnesses said…
The witness described...
當你要撰寫的事件有目擊者，在行文的時候將他提出來再好不過了，
這種做法能大大提升你文章的可信度！
目擊者的英文可以是“witness”或“eyewitnesses”，
你可以使用這樣的句型表達目擊者說了什麼：
witness/eyewitnesses + 動詞（said/described/stated/indicated/praised......）that S+V
【例句】
The witness described the suspect as a tall woman between 25-30 years of ages.
目擊者形容嫌疑犯是一個年紀大約在25至30歲的高挑女性。
【例句】
The witness continued by informing us that there was an ET in her farm last night.
目擊者持續告訴我們昨晚她的農場有外星人。
【例句】
Eyewitnesses highly praised his behavior.
目擊者們高度讚揚他的行為。
拒絕評論／談論⋯⋯
sb refused to comment/discuss…
經常許多明星、政治人物在面對採訪的時候，會選擇避開敏感話題。
但是選擇不回答某些議題某種程度上也表明了立場，
所以有時候這依然是有報導價值的新聞點。
【例句】
She refused to discuss the matter.
她拒絕談論這件事。
【例句】
He refused to comment on the superstar’s love affair.
他拒絕對超級巨星的婚外情發表評論。
已有證據顯示⋯⋯
There is evidence that...
某些時候，當你不方便指出消息來源，
或是在應試作文的時候想不起來是哪來的資訊源頭，
就可以使用“There is evidence that S + V”這個句型！
【例句】
There is evidence that under certain conditions,
people with COVID-19 seem to infect others who were more than 6 feet away.
已有證據顯示在某些特定情況下，患有COVID-19的人會感染六英尺外的其他人。
【例句】
There is evidence that stress causes the disease.
已有證據表明壓力會造成這種疾病。
研究指出⋯⋯
The research found...
The study showed...
當你非常肯定已經有相關研究證實你所要撰寫的論點，
你就可以使用句型：
The research/study + 動詞（found/suggested/showed/revealed） that S+V
【例句】
No study has shown the increase of death rate is related to the technical progress.
尚未有研究表明死亡率的增加和科技進步有關。
【例句】
Some studies suggest that exercising is beneficial to longevity.
一些研究指出運動有益於長壽。
【例句】
A recent research revealed the generation gap among the users of different social media.
最近一項研究揭露了不同社群媒體使用者之間的世代差異。
人們普遍認為⋯⋯
it is generally agreed that
如果你需要描述一個世俗認定、普遍同意的事情，
不管你是要緊接著論述，還是發表反方意見，
你都可以使用“it is generally agreed that”句型。
【例句】
It is generally agreed that intelligence is innate.
普遍認為智力是天生的。
【例句】
It's generally agreed that a carbon tax is the best way of disincentivizing fossil fuel usage.
人們多半同意碳稅是抑制使用石油燃料的最佳方法。
發現⋯⋯
It was discovered…
如果你單純要強調「發現」某事／時間／發現人，
那你可以用“It was discovered...”的句型，
它的重點是discover後面的東西，
如果你要強調發現某件事，可以用that S+V或N，
也可以後面加介系詞接上地點或時間。
【例句】
It was discovered that there are a variety of natural resources there.
已發現那裡有各種天然資源。
【例句】
The fact was first discovered in 1743.
這個事實在1743年首度被發現。
某某表示，⋯⋯。
S + V, sb said.
中文裡面，我們會用「醫生說多吃水果有益身體健康」，
而在英文裡，
除了可以用“Some doctors said that eating fruits is good for health.”外，
也可以說“Eating fruits is good for health, some doctors said.”。
這一種把誰誰誰表明／某某說放到最後面、補充說明的用法，
在英文新聞裡面也經常看到，
這種用法可以讓讀者聚焦於前面“S+V”的內容，
但同時又可以在句末清楚表明消息來源，
是一種可以把事情說得很完整的用法。
【例句】
Climate change could undo decades of work on increasing biodiversity, scientists said on the summit.
科學家在高峰會上指出，氣候變遷可能讓十幾年來致力於增加生物多樣性的工作付之一炬。（間接引用）
【例句】
“We will deliver a COVID-19 vaccine before the end of the year,” the president stated.
總統申明，「我們會在年底前發放COVID-19的疫苗」。（直接引用）
※直接引用？間接引用？
直接引用（direct quotation）是指一字不漏引用說話者講的內容；
而間接引用（indirect quotation）則是轉述說話者的意思。
還談到⋯⋯
She/He also spoke of ...
在一篇訪談裡面，
不難看到「○○○還談到了她在高中的時光⋯⋯」諸如此類的句子，
「還談到了⋯⋯」在英文裡可以使用“人 also spoke of ...”的句型。
【例句】
He also spoke of the government's goal of universal HIV testing.
他還提到政府的HIV普篩目標。
【例句】
She also spoke of flexibility in social policy.
她還談到社會政策的彈性。
【例句】
Mandy also spoke of how different she is from her peers.
Mandy也講到她和她的同儕團體有多不同。
（人）告訴記者⋯⋯
sb told our reporter...
在新聞裡面，可以看見「⋯⋯告訴記者S+V」這種用法，
好處是可以隱約表達這項說法的可靠性、取得的正當性。
【例句】
One of the killers told our reporter, ”we have no choice”.
其中一名殺手告訴記者：「我們沒有選擇的餘地」。
【例句】
The scientist told our reporter that there is a new virus that might be the cause of the disease.
科學家告訴記者，有一種新的病毒可能是造成照這種疾病的原因。
