在上一篇中Engoo整理了颱風相關的天災英文，

今天要帶大家繼續看看其他天災用法喔。

台灣位於板塊交界，因此時常發生地震。

大大小小的地震常常帶來不小的災情，

因此現在政府跟學校也越來越重視防震的教育，

不僅學校每學期都必須舉辦防震演習，

政府也會在偵測到地震時傳送警示簡訊給民眾，

讓大家有多出來的緩衝時間可以避難。

現在就讓我們來看看這影響我們生活的天災相關英文該怎麼說囉！

地震的不同說法

earthquake

quake

tremor

tremble

earthquake是最一般也是最常見的說法，

而 quake、tremor、tremble 這三個字也都有震動、搖晃的意思，

所以在一般溝通或是新聞報導中也都會被拿來指稱為地震。

地震的基本認識

magnitude  震度

intensity  地震強度

hypocenter  震源

epicenter  震央

plate  板塊

the boundary of the plate  板塊邊界

after shock  餘震

地震帶來的災害

buildings collapse  建築物倒塌

【範例】

At least twenty building collapsed due to the intense earthquake last night.

昨天的地震導致了至少二十棟建築物倒塌。

tsunami  海嘯

【範例】

A tsunami is caused by the large, undersea earthquakes, and often leads to serious damages.

海嘯是由強烈的海底地震所引發，且通常造成嚴重的災害。 

landslide  山崩

【範例】

According to the experts,  the landslide yesterday were resulted

from the continuous raining and the earthquake took place last week.

據專家的說法，昨天的山崩是由於連日豪雨以及上周的地震所引發的。

地震新聞解讀

現在讓我們來看一段地震的新聞播報吧！

這是2010年時海地大地震BBC所作的報導，

裡面有用到許多剛剛介紹的單字，

大家可以試著先不看翻譯去理解這段新聞的意思喔！

On 12 January 2010, a magnitude 7 earthquake hit Haiti at 16:53 local time.

The earthquake's epicentre was 25 km west of Port-au-Prince, the capital.

2010年六月12號海地在當地時間16:53發生了規模7的地震。

地震的震央在距離海地首都太子港以西25公里的地方。

其他天災的說法

volcanic eruption  火山爆發

【範例】

Volcanic eruptions can ruin the city nearby the volcano easily.

火山爆發能輕易的毀掉火山周圍的城市。

avalanche  雪崩

【範例】

Being afraid of meeting the avalanche, we decide to leave the mountain as soon as possible.

由於害怕遇到雪崩，我們決定盡早離開山。

tornado  龍捲風

【範例】

Tornadoes usually take place in the middle-south states of America.

龍捲風經常發生在美國中南部州。

hailstone/hailstorm(較嚴重)  冰雹

【範例】

Hailstone seldom happens in Taiwan.

台灣偶爾會有冰雹發生。

drought  乾旱

【範例】

Because it hasn't rained in a couple of months, California is suffering from the drought.

由於好幾個月沒下雨，加州現正面臨乾旱。

foehn wind  焚風

【範例】

Foehn winds can cause forest fire, and trigger devastating ecological crisis.

焚風可能引起森林大火，造成災難性的生態危機。

 blizzard  暴風雪

【範例】

New York city faced the strongest blizzard over the decades this winter.

紐約市在今年冬天碰上了近幾十年來最強的暴風雪。

看完不同天災後，最後Engoo要跟大家介紹一些受傷、

傷亡人數的英文該怎麼說，讓大家在描述災害帶來的影響時，能更完整的表達。

傷亡的說法

casualties  死傷人數

【範例】

The tsunami took place in India 2004 caused a large number of casualties.

2004年發生在印尼的南亞大海嘯造成了嚴重的死傷人數。

 death  死亡

【範例】

The notorious criminal was sentenced to death penalty.

那位惡名昭彰的罪犯被判了死刑。

injured  受傷的

【範例】

She was seriously injured due to the car accident.

車禍導致她重傷。

wound  傷口

【範例】

Let the doctor see your wound.

讓醫生看看你的傷口。
