1.fat cat
意指有錢或是有權有勢的人，特別用於商業領域。
【例句】
The businessman was described as a fat cat due to the huge bonuses he got.
那個商人之所以被稱為肥貓是因為他得到得鉅額紅利。
2. cool cat
有型、或是值得敬佩的人。
【例句】
He is such a cool cat that lots of girls have a crush on him.
他是一個非常有魅力的人，因此有許多女生偷偷暗戀他。
3. bell the cat
意指執行一件不可能的任務。
據說這個用法源自於伊索寓言，相傳有一隻老鼠想要將鈴鐺掛在貓的頸上，用來警告老鼠聽到鈴鐺聲時，就要趕快遠離，但這是一個相當困難的事情，因此衍伸出執行一件具有高度風險任務、鋌而走險的意思。
【例句】
Who is willing to bell the cat and tell our professor that we are not able to attend the seminar this Saturday?
誰願意承擔風險，去告訴教授我們週六無法參加研討會？
4. like a cat on a hot tin roof
tin是錫的意思，字面上是一隻在很燙的錫屋頂上的貓。
也就是中文裡熱鍋上的螞蟻哦！用來形容一個人非常緊張或是焦慮。
【例句】
My sister has been like a cat on a hot tin roof for the whole day, waiting for the result of university entrance exam.
我的姊姊正在等待大學入學考試的結果，一整天都急得像熱鍋上的螞蟻。
5. cat got (one's) tongue
用來形容某人異常的安靜，或是無話可說。
一開始常用在小孩做錯事情，當大人問問題的時候一問三不知或不敢回答，現在範圍則不限於小孩，就是我們口語常說的”你怎麼不講話了呢？”
例句：
You look weird today. Is everything alright? Did the cat get your tongue?
你今天看起來很奇怪，一切都還好嗎？怎麼特別安靜呢？
6. let the cat out of the bag
字面上是讓貓從袋子出來，也就是不小心說出秘密或是原本不打算講的事情。
【例句】
I am really sorry that I didn’t mean to let the cat out of the bag. Please forgive me and I will never do that again.
很抱歉我不是故意要說出秘密的，請原諒我，我再也不會這麼做了。
7. play cat and mouse
使用戰略或特殊手段迎戰、玩弄與股掌之間，或是嘲笑、愚弄某人。
【例句】
The writer has played cat and mouse with the press for an entire month.
那個作家已經將媒體玩弄與股掌之間，長達整整一個月。
8. look like the cat that got the cream
對於自己的成就或所作所為，感到極度滿意，以自己為傲。
【例句】
The student looked like the cat that got the cream after winning a prize.
那個學生在贏得獎項之後，看起來相當得意。
9. enough to make a cat laugh
字面上是足夠讓一隻貓笑，相較於其他動物，貓一直給人比較疏遠、高貴的感覺，也因此這個片語就代表某件事情非常非常有趣，甚至連貓都能捧腹大笑。
此外，它也有極度可笑、荒謬的意思。因此看到這個片語，要記得注意前後文，才不會鬧笑話了！
【例句】
I don’t think it is feasible. The idea is enough to make a cat laugh.
我不認為這個想法是可行的，這聽起來愚蠢至極。
10. have kittens
用來形容人非常難過、擔心及焦躁。
【例句】
She always has kittens when her children go home late, worrying that they may have accidents.
當她的小孩很晚回家時，她總是相當焦慮，擔心他們可能會發生意外。
