【聽歌學英文】[電影]美女與野獸序幕 Beauty and the Beast Prologue

相信大家對於《美女與野獸》的主題曲〈Beauty and the Beast〉一定不陌生，

但是今天小編要介紹一個大家常常忽略的片段 – 他的序幕

新版的序幕和舊的動畫版有些許差異，但小編比較喜歡舊版的，因此今天就來和大家分享這首歌

每次聽完這首歌小編都會不停得起雞皮疙瘩，除了旁白的聲音真的很有情感，

他的歌詞也把整個場面描述得栩栩如生。序幕可以說是整部電影最重要的一環，

說明了王子的背景，也描述為甚麼王子好好的怎麼會變成一頭野獸。

Once upon a time, in a faraway land,
很久很久以前，在一個遙遠的國度，

A young Prince lived in a shining castle.
一位年輕的王子住在華麗的城堡中。

Although he had everything his heart desired,
雖然王子擁有一切他渴望的東西，

The Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind.
他卻被寵壞，自私又不友善。

But then, one winter's night,
但是，某個冬天的夜晚，

An old beggar woman came to the castle
一位老婦女來到城堡乞討，

And offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold.
她用一枝玫瑰向他換取一個躲避酷寒的住所。

Repulsed by her haggard appearance,
王子嫌惡她憔悴的外表，

The Prince sneered at the gift,
他對禮物嗤之以鼻，

And turned the old woman away.
並趕走那位老婦女。

But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances,
但是，她警告他不要被外表蒙騙了，

For beauty is found within.
因為美是從內在找到的。

And when he dismissed her again,
而當他再次打發她走時，

The old woman's ugliness melted away
老婦人醜陋的外表漸漸融掉，

To reveal a beautiful enchantress.
而展現了一位美麗的女巫。

The Prince tried to apologize, but it was too late,
王子試圖道歉，但已經為時已晚，

For she had seen that there was no love in his heart.
因為她已經發覺他的心裡沒有愛。

And as punishment,
作為懲罰，

She transformed him into a hideous beast,
她把他變成一個猙獰的野獸，

And placed a powerful spell on the castle, and all who lived there.
並對城堡和所有住在裡面的人施了一個強大的咒語。

Ashamed of his monstrous form,
羞愧於他怪物似的外表，

The beast concealed himself inside his castle,
野獸把自己藏匿在他的城堡中，

With a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world.
只剩一個魔鏡做為他對外界的唯一窗口。

The Rose she had offered, was truly an enchanted rose,
她送的玫瑰，的確是一朵施了魔咒的玫瑰，

Which would bloom for many years.
它能夠盛開多年。

If he could learn to love another,
如果他能學習要怎麼愛另一個人，

And earn her love in return,
並且也得到對方的愛，

By the time the last petal fell,
當最後一朵花瓣掉落時，

Then the spell would be broken.
咒語就會被解除。

If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.
若沒有，他就注定永遠都是一頭野獸。

As the years passed,
當一年一年過去了

He fell into despair, and lost all hope,
他陷入了惆悵，並失去了所有希望。

For who could ever learn to love... a beast?
因為有誰能懂得要愛一個 … 野獸?

・faraway 遙遠的
He has traveled to many countries and visited many faraway places.
他曾經到很多國家旅行並拜訪過很多遙遠的地方。

・spoiled 被寵壞的
This girl is spoiled! She would scream if she doesn’t get what she wants.
這女孩被寵壞了！如果她沒有得到他想要的東西她就會大叫。

・unkind 不友善的
The couples had a fight, and said a lot of unkind words to each other.
那對情侶剛剛吵了一架，還對對方說了很多不友善的話。

・beggar 乞丐
More often than not, the beggars have more sympathy than us.
很多時後，乞丐都比我們還有同情心。

・repulse 厭惡
I was repulsed by the odor in this room.
我對這房間的臭味感到厭惡。

・haggard 憔悴的
He looked haggard because he was working and didn’t have a proper rest.
他看起來很憔悴，因為他在工作也沒有好好休息。

・sneer 冷笑
The girl sneered as the boy apologized over and over.
男孩不斷得道歉，而女孩只是冷笑。

・turn someone away 拒絕某人
Hundreds of people applied for this job, so we had to turn the ones who are not qualified away.
上百人申請這個職缺，因此我們只好拒絕那些不夠資格的人。

・deceive 欺騙
Stop deceiving yourself. Wake up and face the reality.

・dismiss 打發
The salesman dismissed us impatiently because he wanted to go home.

Although the enchantress could do magic, she insists on using them unless she has to.

With stunning makeup skills, they transformed an ordinary girl into a gorgeous lady.

・hideous 可怕的、猙獰的
The hideous drawing makes me shiver with fear.

・despair 絕望
Jane fell into deep despair after breaking up with her boyfriend.
Jane 在和她男朋友分手後陷入深深的絕望。

這首歌的作詞者善用了許多充滿情感、畫面的形容詞，

簡單卻有張力的敘述了故事的起源。
