每到夏天，台灣總是被颱風侵襲。
突然的豪大雨以及能把大樹連根拔起的颶風，都是台灣人在颱風時期的恐怖記憶。
今天Engoo整理了有關天災的相關單字，以及描述這些天災程度及範圍的用法。
學起來的話之後不管是在寫作文或是看新聞時都能派上用場喔！
颱風的各個名稱
- typhoon 颱風（在太平洋的熱帶性低氣壓）
- hurricane 颶風（在大西洋的熱帶性低氣壓）
- cyclone 旋風（在印度洋的熱帶性低氣壓）
颱風的災害
- flood 淹水
- mudslide 土石流
- rainstorm 暴風雨
- uproot the tree 把樹連根拔起
- blow away roofs and signs 把屋頂和招牌吹走
- deluge/torrent/downpour/showers 豪雨
描述颱風的用法
landfall 登陸
【範例】
The typhoon will landfall in eastern Hualian within 3 hours.
颱風會在三小時內登陸花蓮東部。
devastating 摧毀性的
【範例】
The typhoon brought devastating winds that felled lots of trees.
這個颱風帶來摧毀性的強風吹倒了許多樹。
rip through A 從A中間穿過去
【範例】
The typhoon ripped through Taiwan, causing many damages.
颱風穿過，造成了很多傷害。
rainfall 降雨量
【範例】
The rainfall have already reached 150mm within last 6 hours.
在過去六小時內降雨量已經來到150毫米。
sea / land warning 海上 / 陸上颱風警報
【範例】
The Central Weather Bureau issued a sea warning at 14:00.
中央氣象局在下午兩點時發部了海上颱風警報。
roaring winds and intense rain 狂風暴雨
【範例】
People stay at home during typhoon days due to the roaring winds and intense rain.
由於外頭的狂風暴雨，大家在颱風天時都待在家。

evacuate 疏離
【範例】
The residents had been evacuated before the typhoon came.
居民在颱風來臨前被疏離。
cancel the flight 取消航班
【範例】
The flight was canceled owning to the bad weather.
由於天氣不好，航班被取消了。
power cut 停電
【範例】
The power cut was arisen from the collapses of electric poles.
這次的停電是由電線桿倒塌引起的。
anticipated food prices raise 食物價格預期上漲
【範例】
Before the typhoon comes, people always buy more food due to the anticipated prices raise.
颱風來臨前，人們總是會購買更多食物因為預期物價上漲。
防颱措施
store food 儲存糧食
【範例】
You had better store some food before the typhoon approaches.
你最好在颱風來之前儲存一些食物。
precautions 預防措施
【範例】
It's important to do some precautions in advance.
事前的預防措施是很重要的。
alert 警戒
【範例】
Everybody should stay alert in the typhoon day. Because the roaring winds and intense rain may cause serious damages.
大家必須在颱風天時保持警覺，因為狂風暴雨可能會造成許多災害。
water pump 抽水機
【範例】
The water pump was working day and night to prevent the flood.
為了預防淹水，抽水機一直開著。

這是截取一小段今年夏天尼伯特颱風襲台是BBC所作的報導。
"The typhoon packed winds of up to 198 km/h (123mph) and made landfall just before 06:00 local time (22:00 GMT Thursday) in eastern Taitung."
這個颱風挾帶時速198km/hr的強風，並且在當地時間六點左右登路了台東東部。
