我們得以現代的觀點來解釋他的話。
【動詞】點燃、照亮（介系詞使用 up）
動詞三態可為 light-lighted-lighted 或是 light-lit-lit，
在使用習慣上，過去式會使用 "lit"，過去分詞則使用 "lighted"。
The room is brilliantly lighted up and full of guests.
房間裡燈火輝煌，賓客滿堂。
【形容詞】輕的
I can carry this suitcase on my own. It is very light.
我可以自己拿行李，它很輕。
【形容詞】明亮的、淺色的
I prefer light colors rather than dark ones.

將某件事帶到光底下，揭露事情，使其展露無遺，也就是 to reveal 的意思。

in (the) light of 考量到
這是一個用來表達因果關係的片語，意思是「有鑑於」、「考量到」。
而「有鑑於此」的英文則是 in the light of this，
通常用於一個句子的前頭，以總結前面說的話來說明後面接的句子。
【補充】這個片語的相同用法有 because of / taking into account / in view of
In the light of recent accidents, I ask my kids to go home earlier.
有鑑於最近的事故，我要求我的孩子早點回家。
light up 使開朗起來
除了有點燃、點亮的意思之外，也可以表示「使開朗起來」，如同點亮心情。
Lisa's face lit up with excitement when she saw her parents’ coming.
當 Lisa 看見她父母的到來時，她的表情因興奮而開朗起來。
in the spotlight 成為焦點
spotlight 為「聚光燈」，站在聚光燈下就會成為大家的焦點；
同樣地，一件事在聚光燈下的話，大家就會關注那件事。
Environmental issues are now in the spotlight of global attention.
環境議題現在是全球關注的焦點。
come to light 真相大白
原本在陰暗處的事物，現在終於到了明亮處，
所有看不見的東西，都會變得顯而易見。
所以這個片語延伸為「真相大白」、「東窗事發」的意思。
值得注意的是，這個片語在英文中帶有貶義。
Some new evidence has come to light about Mary’s car accident.
最近發現了一些和 Mary 車禍事故有關的新證據。
go out like a light 立即入睡、秒睡
這個片語不是說你出門時穿的衣服很浮誇、很引人注目！
out 也可以指一個東西用完了、沒有了，light 在這裡意旨燈火，
想像你的精力是燈火，一用完就馬上熄滅。
I went out like a light the moment I touched my bed.
我一碰到床就秒睡。
light 相關慣用語
see the light 恍然大悟
通常我們會說一個人看見光表示他受到開示，有一道光指引著他，
在英文中也有這種用法來表示「恍然大悟」喔～
After a short meeting with supervisor, he saw the light.
在與導師簡短的面談過後，他豁然開朗。
in the cold light of day 事後冷靜下來想清楚
相較夜晚，白天比較可以看見事情的全貌，
而片語當中的 "day" 意旨「白天 daytime 」，而不是「天」。
Colin had a fight with his soccer team during yesterday's training, but in the cold light of day, he regretted it.
Colin 和他的隊員昨天在訓練時發生口角，但事後冷靜下來之後他很後悔。
see light at the end of the tunnel 苦日子熬到頭、看見曙光
tunnel 一詞為「隧道」，當你在隧道裡終於看到一絲光線，代表要走出隧道了。
During the whole season, the soccer team finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel and got into the final.
在整個賽季以來，這支足球隊終於熬到頭，闖進決賽。
make light of something 不當一回事
這邊的 light 可以解釋為「輕的」，我們常說事情有「輕、重、緩、急」，
而當一個人讓一件事變得很輕，就代表他根本把它不當一回事。
Vitoria is that kind of person who makes light of everything.
Vitoria 是那種不把任何事當回事的人。
in the different light 從不同觀點、角度
還記得 light 有觀點的意思嗎？這個片語 in the different light 也就是「從不同觀點 ... 」。
While not being able to resolve the case, the detective attempted to solve this crime in the different light.
因為遲遲無法破案，所以這名偵探嘗試從不同角度來偵查案件。
