【英文作文】因此只會講therefore嗎？10組提升你詞彙量的單字！
在英文寫作時，無論你的目的是檢定考試、升學考試，
還是和國外客戶溝通、寫信給國外學校，
很大一個重點就是「盡量不要用重複的詞彙」，
因為這樣會讓人覺得你的單字量不夠，翻來覆去就這幾個單字。
今天Engoo要教你一些常用字詞的替換字，
讓你在行文間，有更多字彙可以選擇！

change 改變、更改
change的替代詞有：
- transform
- modify
- adjust
【例句】
It is impossible to transform the organization overnight.
要一夜之間改變組織是不可能的事。
【例句】
Can you ensure if I have the privilege to modify the server?
你能確認一下我有沒有權限能修改伺服器嗎？
【例句】
It took time to adjust customers to new shopping ways.
消費者要適應新的消費方式需要時間。

therefore 因此
therefore的意思是「因此」，使用時機是當你說完一件事，要給予一個結論，
或是說明的東西有著前後因果關係，就會用上“therefore”。
因為therefore的詞性是「副詞」，所以它不能連接兩個句子，
要在前一個句子結束後，下一個句子開頭大寫，並且後面有逗號；
或是另外一個用法：使用and therefore連結原因句子和結論句子。
也就是：
“A sentence. Therefore, B sentence.” 或是
“A sentence and therefore B sentence.”
【例句】
She didn’t logically answer the question and therefore can’t pass the interview.
她未能有邏輯的答題，因此沒能通過面試。
【例句】
The company had financial issues and was lack of efficient inner system. Therefore, the new CEO decided to reorganize.
這間公司有財務問題，也缺乏有效率的內部系統；因此新的CEO決定要進行組織重整。
而therefore可以用這些字替換：
- consequently
- accordingly
- as a result
【例句】
He forgot to send the meeting invitation. Consequently, lots of people were absent from the meeting.
他忘記寄出會議邀請，因此很多人缺席會議。
【例句】
Everyone is unique. As a result, it’s okay to have different thoughts.
每個人都是獨特的，因此有不一樣的想法也沒關係。

also 而且、此外、還
also也可以放在句首，連接上下句的語意，
但要注意，它不是連接詞，你一樣只能選擇：
“A sentence. Also, B sentence.” 或是
“A sentence and also B sentence.”
Also的替代詞有：
- furthermore
- moreover
- in addition
【例句】
I think the article is badly written. Furthermore, it's inaccurate.
我覺得那篇文章寫得很糟，甚至還相當不精確。
【例句】
I don’t want to keep a pet. Moreover, my apartment is too small.
我並不想養寵物，而且我的公寓太小了。
【例句】
He paid her debt when they just knew each other. In addition, he bought a diamond ring for her.
在剛認識彼此的時候，他就替她償還了債務，甚至還買了鑽石戒指給她。

use的替代詞：
- utilize 使用、應用
- employ 使用、利用
- apply 應用、運用
- adopt 採用、選用
【例句】
There is considerable evidence that once you join the online degree program you learn skills that can be utilized elsewhere.
大量證據表明只要你加入了線上學位計畫，就能學到在其他地方也能用的技能。
【例句】
You could employ a saw to cut the piece of wood.
你可以用電鋸來切這塊木頭。
【例句】
He convinced the director to adopt our suggestion.
他說服總監採用我們的建議。
【例句】These rules apply equally in all cases.
這些規則適用於所有的案例。

important 重要的、關鍵的
important 有一些替代詞：
- significant 重要的、顯著的
- vital 極其重要的、不可少的
- critical 關鍵性的、至關重要的
- imperative 極其重要的、緊迫的
- essential 必要的、不可少的
之所以在這組替代詞附上中文，是因為他們大多數時候可以相互替換，
但字詞之間還是有一些細微的差異，在某些時候，可能僅有該字詞較符合句意。
【例句】
Your support is vital to my success.
你的支持是我成功的關鍵。
【例句】
She played a critical role in the process of mergers and acquisitions.
她在併購的過程扮演關鍵性的角色。
【例句】
Survival is our first imperative.
生存是我們的當務之急。

answer 回答、答案
answer作為名詞時，意思是解答、答案，
它的替代詞有：
- solution 解決方法
- explanation 解釋、說明
【例句】
The best solution is to separate the people into 3 groups.
最好的解決辦法就是把大家分成三組。
【例句】
The client needs a very comprehensive explanation of this plan.
需要針對這個計畫給這位客戶非常詳盡的說明。

你可以想像如果不停在行文中，
重複使用「○○說」、「ＸＸ說」有多惱人吧？
所以也要適當減少你用”say“的次數！
say的替代詞有：
- state 陳述、說明
- explain 解釋
- claim 聲稱、主張
【例句】
You should state the problem clearly during the meeting.
你應該在會議中清楚陳述問題。
【例句】
She claimed that the store violated the contract first.
她主張是店家違反合約在先。
【例句】
To make sure the client totally understands, you had better explain the idea again.
為了確保客戶完全了解，你最好還是再解釋一次點子。

describe的替代詞有：
- portray 描述、描繪
- characterize 描述……特徵
- report 報告、匯報
【例句】
Please describe what you do in your spare time.
請描述在閒暇時候你會做什麼。
【例句】
The customers in the report were portrayed as ignorant people.
消費者在這份報告裡被描述成無知的人。
【例句】
How would you characterize the financial crisis in 2018?

I would further clarify the situation in the meeting.
