1. once in a blue moon 非常罕見、千載難逢
once in a blue moon是一個常見慣用語，blue moon指的是一種天文現象，
通常要在火山爆發或茫茫大霧中才有可能看到月亮呈現淺藍的狀況，
因為發生的機率非常低，所以once in a blue moon就成了「非常罕見、千載難逢」的意思。
【例句】
My brother is studying in America now, so I only see him once in a blue moon.
我的哥哥現在在美國讀書，所以我很少見到他。
【例句】
This is really a chance once in a blue moon. Please give me this opportunity to go with you.
這真是一個千載難逢的機會。請給我這個機會和你一起去吧！
2. in two shakes of a lamb’s tail 等一下、馬上
羊搖尾兩次的時間非常短暫，所以in two shakes of a lamb’s tail非常容易理解就是等一下、馬上，
意思相近的用法還有in a jiffy、in two ticks。
【例句】
Mr. Li is on the phone now. He will be with you in two shakes of a lamb’s tail.
李先生現在還在通話中。他馬上就會來了。
3. Third time’s the charm! 嘗試到第三遍一定成功
charm除了有魅力的含意外，也有魔法的意思，
Third time is the charm!字面上解釋成第三次有魔法，
這句話就是要鼓勵人不要放棄，再嘗試一次可能就會成功，
而三次在這裡其實沒有限定一定是第三次，
只是慣用的用法而已。另外英式則會用"Third time lucky."來表達。
【例句】
Don’t be nervous. Third time's the charm. You can finally nail it!
不要緊張。再嘗試一次，你最後一定會成功的！
4. catch 40 winks 打盹
想像一個人因為昏昏欲睡不斷的眨眼，
catch 40 winks這句話的意思就是打盹，
其實wink的名詞就有睡眠的意思，
"I didn't get a wink of sleep last night."就是指昨晚完全沒睡。
【例句】
I want to catch forty winks before the teacher comes.
我想在老師來之前打個小盹。
5. take 5 休息一下
take 5是一種口語用法，5指的是5分鐘，
所以take 5和take a break 一樣意思，就是指休息一下。
【例句】
Okay, guys. Let’s take 5 and come back on time.
好，大家，休息5分鐘，準時回來。
6. do time坐牢
坐牢的英文是be in jail或go to jail，但如果不想太直白的話，
就可以說 do time，而good time表示的則是減刑的意思。
另外，do time也會用在比喻式的情況，比喻事情像是坐牢一樣糟糕。
【例句】
John is doing time for murder of his mother.
John因為謀殺母親正在坐牢。
【例句】
I've done my time at that terrible job.
這工作糟透了簡直就像坐牢！
7. the 7 year itch 七年之癢
七年之癢應該是一個還不算陌生的詞，itch是癢、渴望的意思，
七年之癢就是指男女婚姻到了第七年，
可能會因為生活的平淡規律而感覺無聊、乏味，
渴望尋找新的刺激，而發生婚外情或出軌的現象。
【例句】
Tom and Anna still act lovey-dovey. They don’t feel the 7 year itch at all.
Tom和Anna現在仍舊會在公共場合卿卿我我。他們完全沒有感覺到七年之癢。
8. an 8 hour day 標準工作時數
an 8 hour day指的是一天標準工作時數：8小時，也可以說40-hour week。
【例句】
The eight-hour day movement was a social movement to regulate the length of a working day.
「每天工作8小時運動」是一個要求規範工作時數的社會運動。
