我們很常用物以類聚、臭味相投來表示性質相近的東西、朋友常聚集在一起，
那大家知道這些詞的英文該怎麼說嗎？
其實在英文中也有許多句子代表類似的意思，而且還非常有趣呢！

1. Birds of a feather flock together.
flock (v.) 群聚
flock本身有群聚的意思，而這句話字面上的意思是說，
羽毛相同的鳥們會聚在一起，也就是我們中文常說的「臭味相投」。
而也會有人用 birds of a feather 來形容那些狐群狗黨。
例句1.
Jamie has skipped a lot of classes since she started to hang out with the bad kids. Well, you know what they say, birds of a feather flock together.
Jamie 自從跟那些壞孩子混之後就翹了很多堂課。唉，傳說的物以類聚嘛。
例句2.
Making fun of others and bullying the weak, they really are birds of a feather.
取笑別人又霸凌弱勢，他們真的是狐群狗黨誒。
2. Dogs of a tether walk together.
tether (n.) 鍊繩
這句話其實是從美國漫畫 Buckles 中出來的，
字面上來說，被牽在一起的狗會一起行動，
而有相同癖好的人們也會一起做事。
例句1.
A: “Look at them! They are making a mess again.”
B: “Dogs of a tether walk together.”
A：「你看他們啦，又在搗亂了！」
B：「真是物以類聚。」
3. In similar waters, similar fish are found.
similar (adj.) 相似的
這句話有點類似中文說的「蓬生麻中，不扶而直」，
主要是強調在相似的環境中比較容易找到類似的人們。
例句1.
In similar waters, similar fish are found. It is very important that you choose your neighborhood.
蓬生麻中，不扶而直。慎選鄰居是很重要的。
4. Pigeon flies with pigeon, hawk with hawk.
pigeons (n.) 鴿子
hawk (n.) 老鷹
類似「近朱者赤，近墨者黑」，
就像在野外，通常同一個物種的生物都會一起行動，
人們通常也會選擇相似的人做伴。
例句1.
Pigeon flies with pigeon, hawk with hawk. You have to choose your partner wisely.
近朱者赤，近墨者黑，你一定要聰明的選擇你的夥伴。
5. Rats know the way of rats.
其實這句話是從中文的鼠輩之道而來的，
意思是形容這群人都知道一些偷偷摸摸的伎倆，而一起在背後搞破壞。

他們都是一丘之貉，我覺得你跟他們保持距離為妙。
6. Badgers of the same hole.
badger (n.) 獾
獾是一種群居性的雜食性動物，主要生活在冰天雪地中，
因為他們會在大樹下或是土丘下挖洞築窩，因此就藉此形容同一種類型的人會群居在一起。
例句1.
A: “They are badgers of the same hole.”
B: “I agree. They either drink excessively or do drugs.”
A: 「他們真的是一丘之貉。」
B: 「我同意，他們要不是酗酒要不就吸毒。」
7. Always jackdaw with jackdaw.
jackdaw (n.) 寒鴉
寒鴉是一種群居性的動物，
當他們看到他們認為好的覓食地時，會呼朋引伴的前往覓食，
亞里斯多德大概是發現牠們這個特性而講出這句話的吧~
例句1.

人總是物以類聚，這也正是為甚麼我們常常認為朋友能反射你的為人。
8. Things that have a common quality ever quickly seek their kind.
common (adj.) 常見的
quality (n.) 特質、特性
seek (v.) 尋找、追求
意思是說，有相同特質的事物會盡快找到他們的同類。
這句話是馬可·奧里略（Marcus Aurelius）說的，除了是一位傑出的哲學家，也是羅馬帝國偉大的黃帝之一。
例句1.
Things that have a common quality ever quickly seek their kind. Therefore, you can tell someone’s personality by their friends.
相同特質的人們會群找他們的同夥，因此你能從他身邊的朋友判斷一個人的性格。
9. Like readily gathers together with like.
like (n.) 相似的事物
readily (adv.) 容易的
這句話是出自羅馬帝國的政治及哲學家西塞羅 (Marcus Tullius Cicero)，
一樣有物以類聚的意思。
但比較特別的是這邊的like是當名詞，當作相似的事物的意思。
例句1.
She thinks she’s much better than her friends, but in my opinion, like readily gathers together with like.
她自認比她朋友們優越，但我認為他們根本是物以類聚。
10. People of the same temperament desire each other.
temperament (n.) 性情、氣質
desire (v.) 渴望
這句話其實是從日文的諺語轉變而來的，意思是性情相似的人們會渴望彼此。
相較於前面幾句比較負面的形容，這句也可以拿來形容正向的唷！
例句1.
You can start a study group to help with your study. After all, people of the same temperament desire each other.
你可以組一個讀書會來幫助你的學業，畢竟，性情相似的人們渴望聚在一起。
