【英文片語】趁著寒冬學學各種 “Cold” 片語

台灣終於有冬天的感覺了，想形容天氣冷最簡單的方式大概就是說今天超 “cold” 吧，但你知道除了形容天氣外， “cold” 也可以形容各種不同人事物嗎？今天就來一起學學更多片語吧！
Cold hearted 冷酷無情
通常比較友善、友愛的人會帶給他人溫暖的感覺，相反的，說某人 “cold-hearted” 就是指比較高冷、無情、沒溫度的人。
【例句】
You're not celebrating with us? Don't be so cold hearted!
你沒有要和我們一起去慶祝嗎？別這麼無情嘛！
還有一句相似的片語：To have ice in one’s veins
【例句】
My ex-boss never smiled. I think he had ice in his veins.
我前老闆從來都不微笑的，感覺就超冷血的。
連血管裡都是冰，感覺就超冷血超可怕的。
Get cold feet 臨陣退縮
在大場合前突然緊張、臨陣退縮，就可以用這個片語形容。
【例句】
I used to get cold feet before I gave presentations, but not anymore.
我之前在報告前都會超緊張的，但現在不會了。
The skydivers got cold feet just before it was time to jump out of the plane.
這名跳傘運動員在輪到他跳下飛機前臨陣退縮。
Cold-call （電話）陌生拜訪
這是業務銷售的術語，指打電話給沒有聯繫過的客戶銷售產品或服務，也就是「冷」不防地來電，相反的，打給之前有聯繫過的客戶噓寒問暖則是 “warm call” ，在台灣，通常都是直接說這兩句英文片語。
【例句】
I have to cold-call potential clients all day for my job. It’s not easy!
我工作整天都要陌生開發潛在客戶，有夠困難的！
(Stop something) cold turkey 果斷戒掉某種行為
想戒掉壞習慣真的很難，有些人會採取循序漸進的方法，但有些人受不了這樣慢慢拖，選擇直接果斷戒除，這種時候，就會用 “cold turkey” 形容。
【例句】
After smoking for 10 years, Zach quit cold turkey last month.
當了十年菸民的 Zach 上個月突然果斷戒菸。

Cold sweat 冒冷汗
除了天氣熱會流汗，我們也會因恐懼、緊張等情緒而冒冷汗。
【例句】
I woke up from a nightmare in a cold sweat last night.
我昨晚作惡夢突然驚醒，嚇出一身冷汗。
Thinking about the big meeting next week makes me break into a cold sweat.
想到下周的重要會議就讓我緊張到冒冷汗。
Cold comfort 微不足道的事情
雖然是好的，卻又沒什麼用處。
【例句】
He apologized for starting the rumor, but it was cold comfort after the damage it already caused.
他為散布謠言而道歉，但這根本沒用，造成的傷害已經無法挽回。
Cold war 冷戰
沒有激烈爭吵或打鬥，就可以稱為「冷戰」。
【例句】
The companies are in a cold war, with each hiring the best engineers before their rivals can.
兩家公司正處於冷戰狀態，各自爭相在對手之前挖角頂尖工程師。
當 “Cold War” 兩字都有大寫時，指的是1945年到1991年的美蘇冷戰。
Leave someone out in the cold 冷落（人）、把人晾在一邊
【例句】
I felt left out in the cold when I lost my phone and couldn't contact my friends.
我弄丟手機、沒辦法聯繫朋友的時候，感覺就像被冷落在外。
Many workers were left out in the cold after the company's layoffs.
公司裁員後，許多員工遭棄之不顧。
Give someone the cold shoulder 無視、不理睬（人）
【例句】
Jesse’s been giving me the cold shoulder all week. What did I do to make her upset?
Jesse 一整個禮拜都無視我，我做錯了什麼嗎？
Some of his colleagues gave him the cold shoulder when he was promoted to a new position.
他升遷後，許多同事都對他冷眼相待。
當然，這些片語不是只有天氣冷的時候才可以用，只要知道意思，一年四季任你說！
