Election (n.) 選舉
【例句】
We use elections to choose the right person for that position.
我們透過選舉的方式來決定適合那個職位的人。
Opinion poll (n.) 民意調查
在選舉過程中，我們會透過民意調查來了解公眾對於此政治人物或議題的支持度。
這裡「opinion」指的是我們的「想法」或「意見」，
而「poll」有著「投票」或「調查」的含義。
【例句】
We should always take opinion polls into account. Any changes in the opinion poll results may alter our final outcome.
我們應該一直把民意調查納入考量範圍內。任何民調的變動都可能會影響我們的最終結果。
Candidate (n.) 候選人
說到選舉，必不可少的就是候選人了。
這裡我們用「candidate」來表示「候選人」，
而「candidate for sth」這個固定搭配就代表「某個職位的候選人」。
【例句】
He is a strong candidate for the president of the student council.
他是一個很有實力的學生會會長候選人。
Vote (n.) / (v.) 投票
無論是執政者的選舉，或是職位的選拔，大多都是通過投票的形式進行。
「vote」這個詞在英文裡可以被用做動詞以及名詞，都代表著「投票」的意思。

這裡的「vice」形容「副職的」，
所以我們可以用「vice president」來代表「副總統」。

總統候選人有誰呢？
Legislator (n.) 立法委員
「legislator」這個詞用來形容「立法委員」，即負責執政的民意代表。
而這個單字可以變換形式成「legislation」，也就是「立法」或「法律」的意思喔！

立法委員的指責包括編寫以及通過法令。
Parliamentarian (n.) 議員
「Parliament」指的是「議會」或「國會」，
而「Parliamentarian」代表著議會的成員，也就是我們所謂的「議員」。
【例句】
He has been elected as a parliamentarian.
他被選為了議員。
Chief of Village (n.) 里長
「Chief of village」也就是我們所謂的「里長」，
這一職位也將在九合一選舉中進行票選。
「Chief」有著「領袖」，「長官」的含義；而「village」指的是「村子」。
【例句】
It is never easy to be the chief of a village.
當里長從來都不是一件簡單的事。
