Fat cat｜有權勢的人
意指有錢或是有權有勢的人，就像吃得飽飽的肥貓一樣，特別用於商業領域或唱片公司。
【例句】
Let's not let the fat cats get the best of us!
我們不要讓那些商業巨頭贏了！
cool cat｜有型的人
「酷貓」就是指「有魅力的人」。
【例句】
He is really a cool cat. I can tell why a lot of girls have a crush on him.
他真的是很有魅力的人。不難看出為什麼很多女生暗戀他。
bell the cat｜執行不可能的任務
據說這個用法源自於伊索寓言，相傳有一隻老鼠想要將鈴鐺掛在貓的頸上，
用來警告其他老鼠聽到鈴鐺聲時，就要趕快遠離，
但這是一個相當困難的任務，因此 "bell the cat" 衍伸出執行一件具有高度風險任務、鋌而走險的意思。
【例句】
Who is willing to bell the cat and tell the boss that we won't make it to the conference this Friday?
誰願意冒險去和主管說我們這星期五無法到場開會？
like a cat on a hot tin roof｜熱鍋上的螞蟻
"Tin" 是「錫」的意思，字面上是一隻在很燙的錫屋頂上的貓，
也就是中文裡熱鍋上的螞蟻，用來形容一個人非常緊張或是焦慮。
【例句】
My sister has been like a cat on a hot tin roof the whole week, waiting for the result of university entrance exam.
我姊姊正在等待大學入學考試的結果，一整週都急得像熱鍋上的螞蟻。
cat got (one’s) tongue｜無話可說
用來形容某人異常的安靜，或是無話可說，如同舌頭被貓咬著。
一開始常用在小孩做錯事情，當大人問問題的時候一問三不知或不敢回答，
現在範圍則不限於小孩，就是我們口語常說的「你怎麼不講話了呢？」。
【例句】
You look weird today. Did the cat get your tongue? Is everything alright?
你今天看起來很怪，怎麼特別安靜呢？一切都還好嗎？
let the cat out of the bag｜說出秘密
字面上是讓貓從袋子出來，也就是不小心說出秘密或是原本不打算講的事情。
【例句】
I am so sorry for letting the cat out of the bag. I never meant it, and it will never happen again!
我很抱歉不小心說出秘密。我真的不是故意的，這種事不會再有下次了！
play cat and mouse with...｜玩弄...於股掌間
像是貓抓老鼠一樣，使用戰略或特殊手段迎戰、玩弄與股掌之間，或是嘲笑、愚弄某人。
【例句】
The writer has played cat and mouse with the press for an entire month.
那位作家這個整整一個月以來，都在把媒體玩弄於股掌之間。
look like a cat that got the cream｜對自己感到驕傲
對於自己的成就或所作所為，感到極度滿意，以自己為傲，就像好不容易吃到奶油的貓一樣。
【例句】
That student looked like a cat that got the cream after winning the prize.
那位學生得獎後，看起來洋洋得意。
enough to make a cat laugh｜非常好笑
字面上是足夠讓一隻貓笑，相較於其他動物，貓一直給人比較疏遠、高貴的感覺，
也因此這個片語就代表某件事情非常非常有趣，甚至連貓都能捧腹大笑。
此外，它也有極度可笑、荒謬的意思。因此看到這個片語，要記得注意前後文，才不會鬧笑話了！
【例句】
This idea is enough to make a cat laugh. I don't think it's feasible.
這個想法聽起來超級荒謬，我覺得根本不可行。
have kittens｜難過、擔心
用來形容人非常難過、擔心及焦躁，像在照顧頑皮的小貓（kitten）一樣心力交瘁。
【例句】
She always has kittens when her children go home late, worrying that they may have got into troubles.
當小孩很晚回家時，她總會感到焦慮，擔心他們可能遇上麻煩了。
