【英文文法】關係副詞這樣理解就對了！Where，When，Why用法看這篇就懂

 

關係副詞出現在「名詞」之後，

主要有where、when、why三種，

關係副詞前面的名詞，稱為「先行詞」。

 

在關係副詞的後面帶出一個說明前方先行詞的「形容詞子句」，

因此，關係副詞扮演著「副詞」和「連接詞」的角色。

而形容詞子句也可以稱為「關係子句」，

關係/ 形容詞子句是一個語意完整的句子。

 

一、Where 表示「地點」

 

where= in/ at/ from + which

where 後方的關係子句傳達更多關於先行詞的資訊。

 

This awesome coffee shop is where I first met my boyfriend.

=This awesome coffee shop is in which I first met my boyfriend.

這間很棒的咖啡廳是我第一次遇到我男朋友的地方。

 

二、When 表示 「時間」

 

when= in/ at/ on + which

 

I remember the day when I left my hometown.

=I remember the day on which I left my hometown.

我記得我離開家鄉的那一天。

 

三、Why 表示「原因、理由」

 

why= for + which

表原因的關係子句中，先行詞是reason。

 

John is an aggressive person, and that is the reason why I hate him.

=John is an aggressive person, and that is the reason for which I hate him.

=John is and aggressive person, and that is why I hate him.

John是個好鬥、挑釁的人，那是我討厭他的原因。

*the reason 可以省略。
