【英文片語】貓叼走你的舌頭了嗎？學會這些貓咪片語 不怕沒話說！

Cat-and-mouse game 追逐戰
除了在卡通裡會看到貓咪追著老鼠到處跑的橋段，生活英文中也常用這個片語形容警匪追逐戰，歹徒逃亡的時間愈長，警察愈有可能被民眾用這個片語來調侃。
【例句】
The thieves played a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the police for several days before they were finally caught.
竊賊和警方開啟了一場為時好幾日的追逐戰後才遭逮捕。
Like herding cats 一盤散沙、極度困難
這句片語用來形容難以聚集群眾的情況，或是很難達成的事物； “herd” 是「放牧」的意思，也就是要把動物聚集往同一個方向，但養過貓的都會知道，貓並不是群聚動物，也不怎麼聽人使喚，所以要「牧貓」基本上就是不可能的任務。
【例句】
He says managing lawyers is like herding cats.
他說管理一群律師比登天還難。
Curiosity killed the cat 好奇心殺死一隻貓
有的時候，好奇心太強也不見得是件好事。
【例句】
Despite warnings from his friends, Mark's curiosity killed the cat when he decided to explore the abandoned house at the end of the street, only to find himself trapped inside by a collapsing floor. (Oxford Language Club)
儘管朋友一再勸告，Mark 還是去街尾那棟廢棄老房探險了，結果因為地板坍塌而被困在裡面，真是好奇心害死貓。

Cat got your tongue? 怎麼都不說話？
問別人舌頭是不是被貓叼走了，就是幽默地詢問對方為什麼沉默不語。
【例句】
You've been quiet all evening, cat got your tongue?
你怎麼一整晚都悶不吭聲？

Fight like cats and dogs 吵得不可開交
貓狗大戰，也就是大吵大鬧、吵得不可開交的場面。
【例句】
As children, we used to fight like cats and dogs over the smallest things.
小時候，我們常常為小事吵得不可開交。
Not enough room to swing a cat 擠得要命
空間小到不行、連轉身的地方都沒有時，就可以用這個片語形容！
【例句】
The dorm is nice but a bit too small. There's not enough room to swing a cat.
宿舍是很好沒錯，但有點太小了，連轉身的地方都沒有。
Look what the cat dragged in 看看是誰來了
這是個帶有點幽默、調侃意味的打招呼方式。
【例句】
Wow, look what the cat dragged in!
哇，這是哪位稀客呀！
Like the cat that got the cream 得意洋洋
形容人像吃到奶油後滿足的貓咪，就是指他們「得意洋洋、春風滿面」。
【例句】
He walked in like the cat that got the cream after getting a promotion.
他得到升遷後春風滿面地走進辦公室。
There's more than one way to skin a cat 條條大路通羅馬
指解決問題的方法不只一種；這裡的 “cat” 其實不是指真的貓，也不是真的要扒了貓的皮，古時候 “cat” 也可以用來指鯰魚或其他生物，所以不是要真的研究扒貓皮的方法喔！
【例句】
If this plan doesn’t work, we’ll try another way. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
如果這個計畫行不通，我們就換個方法，條條大路通羅馬。
The cat’s whiskers 最棒的、傑出的
He thinks he’s the cat’s whiskers after winning the trophy.
贏得獎盃後，他覺得自己簡直是天下無敵。
