【職場英文】Rain check是什麼？要怎麼用英文提出會議&面試提早、延後或改期？

近期星宇航空班機大延誤的新聞鬧得沸沸揚揚，
先不論有多少比例是人為或自然造成，對於剛放完假就要回去上班的民眾來說，
肯定會有改變計畫的需求，或許是希望延後會議，或許是想將面試改期。
遇到這種不可抗力因素時，要如何用英文和國外客戶或主管報備並改時間呢？

計畫、行程改變時，要怎麼報備？
如果真的一定要變更計畫，可以確保和對方提到以下幾點：
- 真心誠意地道歉
可以用 “I am truly sorry, but …” 或 “Unfortunately, ...” 開頭 - 說明需要改期的原因
- 提出新的日期和時間

延期、提前等「變更安排」的英文片語
Push back 延期 ＝Postpone
Push back 直譯到中文就是「往後推」，和 “postpone（延期）” 同義。
【例句】
I’m sorry, but my train is late. Can we push the meeting back to 3 p.m.?
真的很抱歉，但我的火車誤點。我們可以把會議延後到下午三點嗎？
Sue called to say she has to push back the lunch meeting to 12:30. Is that OK?
Sue打電話來說她必須把午餐會議延後到12:30。這樣可以嗎？
I'm sorry, everyone, but we'll need to postpone the company party until the boss has recovered from his injury.
各位，非常抱歉，我們需要將公司的派對延期，直到老闆從傷勢中康復。
Unfortunately, my flight has been postponed because of the snow storm. Can we move our meeting to tomorrow afternoon?
非常不幸地，我的班機因為暴風雪而延誤了。我們可以將會議改到明天下午嗎？
Bring forward 提前、提早
和 “push back” 相反，把東西往前帶，也就是指「提前」、「提早」。
【例句】
My son’s music lesson starts at 5 instead of 6. Can we bring our meeting forward an hour?
我兒子的音樂課不是六點開始，而是五點。我們的會議可以提前一小時嗎？
The announcement said the staff meeting will be brought forward to 2 p.m.
公告有說，員工會議將會提前至下午兩點開始。
“Push back” 和 “bring forward” 這兩個用法也可以用在事情完成的期限（deadline）。
【例句】
Delays with our supplier mean we need to push back our target dates.
供應商延遲交貨，代表我們必須將預計完成日期往後推。
The team is moving so quickly that we've brought our delivery date forward by two months.
我們團隊效率很高，甚至提前了兩個月出貨。
若要表達「請提早一小時到」可以說 "Please arrive one hour earlier"；
表達「提前三小時取消」可以說 "To cancel three hours ahead (of check-in time)"。
Reschedule 改期／重新安排
“Schedule” 大家都知道是指「行程」，當動詞時是「安排」，
前面加上 “Re” 有「重新安排」的意思。
懂日文的讀者應該會想到「リスケ」讀音為 “risuke”，其實就是英文 “reschedule” 的簡化喔～
【例句】
Unfortunately, my assistant made a mistake on my calendar and I can’t meet at our original time, so we’ll need to reschedule. Are you available on Thursday between 2 and 4?
很不幸地，我的助理在安排行程上出了點錯，所以我無法在原定時間會面，需要重新安排時間。請問您星期四下午兩點至四點間有空嗎？
Something has come up. 突然有急事。
當你想要變更安排，但不想詳述發生的事，就可以用 “Something has come up” 這句話來帶過。
“Come up” 是指「突然出現」，通常這樣講的時候，某事原訂時間已經接近，
甚至有可能是前一天、一小時、一分鐘這麼近，
這種狀況也可以用 “last minute change” 來描述。
【例句】
I apologize, but something's come up and I won't be able to attend the event tonight. I hope you'll invite me to the next one.
非常抱歉，我突然有急事，今晚的活動無法參與。希望下次活動還能收到您的邀約。
I'm really sorry, but something important came up that I need to deal with immediately. Are you available to meet next week instead?
真的很抱歉，我突然有件重要的事需要立即處理。可以改約下禮拜會面嗎？
To move things around 調整行事曆／喬一下
除了提出改期的要求，你也有可能是需要配合他人改期的那方，
這時候就會需要 “move things around”，中文就是調整行事曆，或是我們口語說的「喬一下」。
可以把行事曆想像成積木，同一個形狀不一定只有一種排法，
只要「動一動（move around）」不同顏色的積木就好。
【例句】
Pepper
Are you free at 7 tonight?
今晚七點你可以嗎？
Tony
Yes, but I'll have to move some things around.
是可以，但我要先調整一下行事曆。
其他相關詞彙、片語
Work 可行
“Work” 是個非常好用的單字，除了當工作，也可以表示某事或時間「可行」。
【例句】
How about Tuesday at 6 p.m.? Does that work for you?
星期六晚上六點如何？這時間你可以嗎？
If that isn't a convenient time, please let me know what would work for you.
如果這個時間不方便，麻煩再告知我對您可行的時間。
Tight 緊湊的／滿的（行程）
“Tight” 除了當「緊的」，也可以形容行程、行事曆、安排等等很緊湊，
就好像日曆上面一點點空間都沒有了，被事情塞得很滿。
【例句】
She always has a tight schedule. We only have time to meet on the weekends.
她平常的行程很滿。我們只有週末能見面。
His schedule is always tight at the end of the year.
他直到年底前的行事曆都很緊湊。
Fit (someone/something) in 為（某人／某事）撥空
在想要維持原定行事曆的狀況下，如果有額外的事情需要處理，
就必須塞在行程和行程間短短的空擋，這時候就可以用 “fit in” 的說法，
代表這件事剛好「填滿」了行事曆的空格。
【例句】
Mr. Saito is busy in the afternoon, but he can fit you in before his 5 o'clock appointment.
齋藤先生下午比較忙，但在五點的約之前，他可以為您騰出一些時間。
I wish I could fit lunch in with you today, but I'm just too busy!
真希望今天能有空和你吃午餐，但我真的太忙了！
Squeeze (something) in 為（某事）擠出時間
和 “fit in” 有相同意思，只是 “squeeze” 本意是「擠壓」，所以更帶有「硬擠出時間」的意象，
也就更強調「沒有時間、行程緊湊」。
【例句】
I'm sorry for the short notice, but could you squeeze in a quick conference call before you leave?
很抱歉這麼臨時地通知您，但可以麻煩您在離開前擠出一點點時間，快速進行一場電話會議嗎？
Rain check 改天再約／另擇時間
某些需要購票入場戶外活動如果遇到大雨就泡湯，一定得改天再辦，
這時主辦方就會發一張 “rain check”，中文可以直譯「雨票」，讓來賓可以未來再憑券入場，
後來演變成「改期再約」，適用於任何事情，不一定只有因天氣而取消的戶外活動。
通常前面會搭配動詞 take/get。
【例句】
It looks like I will be very busy for a while. Can I get a rain check? Maybe we can meet next week.
看來我現在會忙好一陣子了。可以改期再約嗎？可能約個下禮拜見面？
Thank you for inviting me, but unfortunately I can't go tonight. But I'll take a rain check!
謝謝你的邀請，但剛好我今晚無法到場。不過，我之後一定會去的！
