【運動英文】蘇格蘭格紋大軍襲來！2026世足焦點

為慶祝蘇格蘭男子足球代表隊睽違 28年重返世足舞台，英國政府將 2026年 6月 15日訂為一次性銀行假期，讓民眾前一天可以安心熬夜看比賽，不用擔心隔天爬不起來去上班（當然英格蘭國民就沒這個待遇了）。
除了突然新增的國定假日，引起世界關注的還有一團「格紋大軍」，穿著格子裙、演奏著風笛、用三角錐裝飾雕像、把酒吧喝得一滴也不剩，他們正是千里迢迢趕來觀賽的蘇格蘭球迷，只要在蘇格蘭國家隊比賽的城市裡，就可以目睹這個「軍團」的光彩，今天就來看看他們在美國的豐功偉業吧。
三角錐加冕傳統
蘇格蘭第一大城格拉斯哥有個非常特別的傳統，他們會幫城裡各個偉人雕像戴上三角錐，久而久之，這也成了格拉斯哥的黑色幽默代表，雖然當地政府曾試圖阻止，甚至斥資上萬英鎊加高雕像立台，卻還是抵擋不了這些亮橘三角錐；隨著世足賽在美國正式開踢，蘇格蘭球迷更將這項傳統帶到波士頓，與世界一同慶祝。

The unusual sight has prompted local media in the Massachusetts capital to try and explain the phenomenon.
此非等尋常的奇景也促使麻州首府當地媒體努力解釋該現象背後原因。
This playful mischief is most famously associated with Glasgow’s Duke of Wellington statue outside the Gallery of Modern Art. Since the late 1980s, a cone has persistently topped the statue’s head, only to be replaced whenever removed.
這如玩笑般的惡作劇最知名的例子就是格拉斯哥現代藝術美術館外的威靈頓公爵雕像，從 1980年代後期開始，這尊雕像就總是頂著三角錐，而且每當三角錐遭撤除，一定會有人再放一個上去。
The tradition has now been transplanted across the Atlantic. NBC Boston shared footage of a group of Scotland fans attempting to crown Samuel Adams, a US founding father whose statue stands on a tall pedestal .
這項傳統現在已經橫跨大西洋來到波士頓，NBC 新聞報導的影片中可以看到，一群蘇格蘭球迷試著「加冕」美國開國元勛之一山謬．亞當斯，而且這尊雕像還矗立在高大基座之上。
After several attempts to throw the cone, one fan scaled the pedestal to successfully balance it on Adams’ head. A cone has also been spotted on the statue of basketball legend Bill Russell in Boston. (Yahoo Sports, June 18 2026)
經過多次嘗試後，其中一位球迷爬上雕像基座並成功把交通錐放到亞當斯頭上；另外，在波士頓市內，還可以看到傳奇籃球員比爾．羅素雕像也同樣頂著三角錐。
Tartan Army 蘇格蘭格紋大軍
“Tartan” 指的是格子花紋，也是蘇格蘭裙最常見的圖案，因此，這支像軍隊般龐大的蘇格蘭足球迷，也就獲得了「格紋大軍」的稱號。

Known for their kilts and bagpipes, the Tartan Army traveled all the way from Scotland to support their national team.
以蘇格蘭裙和風笛聞名的格紋大軍從蘇格蘭遠道而來為他們的國家隊加油。
Traffic cone 交通錐
“Cone” 是「圓錐體」的意思，而 “traffic cone” 就是指出現在馬路上（還有格拉斯哥雕像頭上）的那些亮橘色交通錐。
【例句】
Orange traffic cones blocked the entrance to the parking lot.
橘色三角錐擋住了停車場入口。
Crown 加冕
作為名詞時， “crown” 指的是皇冠；而同型的動詞 “crown” 則是「加冕」之意，也就是將代表權力之冠戴到頭上的動作，用在運動賽事上則為「宣布...為冠軍」的意思。
【例句】
The Archbishop crowned the new king during the ceremony.
大主教在典禮上為新王加冕。
喝光波士頓的蘇格蘭人
蘇格蘭每年出口約十億瓶威士忌，國土上更是酒吧林立，只要一有空，蘇格蘭人就是往酒吧跑，這些嗜酒如命的球迷，好飲程度也是讓美國人大開眼界。
Boston’s pubs are facing an unexpected challenge as thousands of Scottish football fans descend on the city for the World Cup, reportedly causing a significant shortage of beer.
隨著上千名蘇格蘭足球迷湧入波士頓看世界盃，市區內酒吧正面臨意想不到的挑戰——啤酒短缺。
Noelle Somers, chief operating officer at Hennessy’s Bar in central Boston, highlighted the scale of the phenomenon, stating that trade following the Scotland v Haiti match had tripled that of St Patrick’s Day.
波士頓市中心軒尼詩酒吧營運長 Noelle Somers 表示，蘇格蘭對海地賽後的啤酒銷售量達到聖派翠克節的三倍之多。
She told the Boston Globe: “We’ve been here for over 30 years and we’ve never seen anything like it.”
受《波士頓環球報》採訪時， Somers 說道：「我們在這已經有三十年之久，這種情況還是第一次見到。」

軒尼詩酒吧在週日晚間就被喝到斷貨，到星期一早上才完成補貨，另外還有安排週四再進一批貨，為週五晚間的蘇格蘭對摩洛哥大賽準備。
Shortage 短缺
能把酒吧喝到斷貨，可見蘇格蘭人的酒量不是蓋的；當要說某項資源短缺時，就可以用 “shortage” 表示，像是文中的「啤酒缺貨」就是 “shortage of beer”。

There's a shortage of food and shelter in the refugee camps. (Cambridge Dictionary)
難民營出現食物與避難所不足的問題。
除了用 “of” 連接，也可以將短缺的資源名稱直接放在 “shortage” 前表示：

漫長又炎熱的夏日導致嚴重缺水。
這場足球狂歡最後還促成兩市締結友好關係，波士頓市長吳弭於六月 18日在市區內的蘇格蘭酒吧 The Haven 簽署意向書，向格拉斯哥遞出友誼橄欖枝。
