像是飛蛾撲火、作繭自縛、蠶食鯨吞...等，
英文裡也有很多跟昆蟲有關的實用片語，
這些有趣的英文片語分別代表什麼意思呢?

as busy as a bee 非常忙碌
蜜蜂在一般印象中是勤勞的象徵，
as busy as bee就是以蜜蜂來形容一個人像蜜蜂一樣非常忙碌的意思，
而a busy bee就是指大忙人。
【例句】
There are two important meetings today. The secretary is as busy as a bee all day.
今天有兩場重要會議，秘書整天都非常忙碌。

Julia is quite a busy bee. She's always doing more than three projects at once!
Julia是個超級大忙人，她總是同時進行超過三個企劃。
the bee’s knees 出類拔萃的人或事物
the bee’s knee字面上是蜜蜂的膝蓋，又怎麼會被認為是出類拔萃的呢？
主要是因為蜜蜂在採蜜的時候，膝部會沾到大量的蜜粉，
因此被認為是最精華的部分，而衍生成出類拔萃的意思，是不是非常有趣呢?
【例句】
Jacky is the bee’s knees in our school. He has many admirers.
Jacky可是我們學校的風雲人物，他有很多愛慕者。
buzz off 滾開
buzz 指的是蜜蜂發出的嗡嗡聲，口語用法可以指傳言或一群人的討論聲，
而做動詞就是指發出嗡嗡聲或散播謠言，因此buzz off就是叫別人滾開，
不要一直在旁邊碎念，去別的地方嗡嗡叫吧！
【例句】
Buzz off！Stop annoying me！I have an exam tomorrow.
滾開！別再煩我了！我明天還要考試。
break a butterfly on a wheel 小題大作、殺雞焉用牛刀
這句話的由來是十八世紀的英國詩人Alexander Pope的詩中“Who breaks a butterfly on a wheel?（是誰用車輪壓死了一隻蝴蝶？）”這句話，
意為因一件小事或是不重要的事，而耗費了極大的時間與心力，也就是小題大作。
【例句】
I can’t believe you spend a day to Japan to buy the clothes that are also sold in Taiwan. You are breaking a butterfly on a wheel.
我真不敢相信你花了一天飛到日本買台灣也買的到的衣服。你也太小題大作了吧！
have butterflies in one’s stomach 感到緊張不安
你可以想像有蝴蝶在胃裡亂飛的感受嗎？英文用這句話比喻一個人非常緊張，
緊張到好像有蝴蝶在胃裡亂飛一樣，非常不舒服。
【例句】
That was Anna’s first date. She felt that she had butterflies in her stomach before the date.
那是Anna的第一次約會。她在約會前緊張到不行。
like a moth to a flame 飛蛾撲火
moth指的是飛蛾，flame則是火焰之意，
而like a moth to a flame想必大家都非常熟悉，那就是飛蛾撲火的意思，
比喻一個人明知有危險，但卻無法抵抗它的致命吸引力，奮不顧身而自取滅亡，
也可引伸為徒勞無功，一開始便注定失敗的行為。
【例句】
Though Hannah knows that she is not Johnson’s type, she still want to proclaim her love for him like a moth to a flame.
雖然Hannah知道她不是Johnson喜歡的類型，但她仍想要對他表白，就如飛蛾撲火一般。
a fly on the wall 靜靜的觀察者
想像一下一隻停在牆壁上的蒼蠅，通常在它被人類消滅或驅趕以前，
就是一個非常不起眼的存在，因此a fly on the wall被用來形容一個人只是靜靜的待在一邊觀察局勢，
做一位安靜的觀察者。
【例句】
In this case, it is wise to be a fly on the wall. You'd better keep your nose nice and clean.
在這情況下，作為一個置身事外的觀察者是非常明智的。你最好不要進來淌這渾水。
a fly in the ointment 美中不足
在古代ointment指的是美觀的或是儀式用物，具有正向、潔淨的意義，
因此在ointment裡的蒼蠅是非常令人不舒服的事，故衍生出美中不足或令人掃興的事物之意。
【例句】
I had a good time this friday, but a fly in the ointment was that I lost my wallet.
這禮拜五我玩的非常開心，唯一美中不足的是我遺失我的錢包了。
ants in the/one’s pants 如坐針氈
如果有螞蟻在褲子裡爬，想必會讓人坐也不是、站也不是，恨不得趕快把它們甩掉吧！
因此ants in the/one's pants就是指如坐針氈、坐立難安的意思，
同樣表示如坐針氈的be on pins and needles也是常見的用法。
【例句】
The report is due this Friday. Sandy gets ants in her pants and stays up late to finish it.
報告星期五就要交了，Sandy非常緊張、坐立難安，熬夜要完成它。
