【主題單字】10個表達健康狀況的生動英文慣用語

大家都會有生病的時候，
每當此時，除了 “I’m sick.” 之外，
還有很多慣用語的表達，
一起來學這些慣用語讓英文說得更道地吧！
as fit as a fiddle 非常健康
fit 表示「健康的」意思，而 fiddle 則是指「小提琴」，
as fit as a fiddle表示非常健康，
就像一把狀況良好的小提琴，隨時可以拉出動人的旋律。
【例句】
My grandmother is eighty years old, but she is still as fit as a fiddle.
我的祖母80歲了，但她還是非常健康。
the picture of (good) health 看起來非常健康
當我們說某人 is the picture of (good) health 其實就是形容看起來非常健康、狀態非常好。
【例句】
The doctor told Jim that he is a picture of good health, and he ran to the basketball court happily.
醫生告訴Jim他看起來非常健康、狀態很好，他很高興的就跑去藍球場了。
under the weather 身體不舒服
under the weather可不能解釋成「在天氣之下」，
它的意思其實是形容人身體微恙、生病不舒服，也會被用來形容酒醉後的不適。
【例句】
Emma was a little under the weather, so she decided to stay home today.
Emma 身體有點不舒服，所以她決定今天在家休息。
look/feel like death warmed up 看起來/感覺病得很重
like death warmed up是形容人臨死前病入膏肓、非常難受的狀況，
因此look/feel like death warmed up就是指人病得很重、非常不舒服的意思。
【例句】
I’m feeling like death warmed up.
我感覺我現在病得不輕、非常難受。
a frog in one’s throat 聲音沙啞說不出話
a frog in one’s throat照字面上翻譯就是「有一隻青蛙在喉嚨裡」，
這個慣用語是用來形容人聲音沙啞說不出話，就像有青蛙在喉嚨裡一樣。
【例句】
After talking for more than 3 hours, she had a frog in her throat.
在她講了超過3小時的話後，她感覺聲音已經沙啞到說不出話來了。
go under the knife 開刀、接受手術
go under the knife：到刀子下面，
其實非常直觀，就是「動手術」的意思，
如果要補充開刀的部位則用on來做連接。
【例句】
It's common these days to hear people go under the knife to improve their appearance.
現今聽到人們透過手術整容來改善容貌已經是非常普遍的事了。
on one’s last legs 奄奄一息
on one’s last legs是用來形容人奄奄一息、行將就木，
也可以用來指公司瀕臨破產或物品將要被報廢。
【例句】
My computer is on its last legs
我的電腦快要報廢了。
a clean bill of health 身體健康證明、報告
a clean bill of health在醫療方面指的是醫生開立的身體健康證明或身體健康報告，
另一方面也可以表示公司營運狀況（如規章制度、安排等）良好的合格證明、安全證明。
【例句】
I was given a clean bill of health, and I will go back to school next week.
收到醫生開立的健康證明，我下周就會回學校上課了。
take a turn for the better 情況好轉
turn有轉變的意思，所以take a turn for the better就是指情況正在好轉，
而take a turn for the worse則是情況變差的意思。
【例句】
Mom cried tears of joy when she knew that our grandmother took a turn for the better.
媽媽知道奶奶的病情好轉後便喜極而泣。
on the mend （病後）逐漸康復
mend有痊癒、好轉之意，
因此某人 is on the mend就是指一個人尚未完全痊癒，
但已經在逐漸康復的意思。
【例句】
Tina's been ill with the flu, but now she’s on the mend.
Tina得了流感，但她已經在逐漸康復了。
