【同義字】用fatigued代替tired 熟記這7組替代字 英文作文更上一層樓！

這時候就要使用意思相近的其他詞彙——替代字，

unavoidable / inevitable 不可避免的
unavoidable可以明顯看出是從動詞“avoid”變化而來，
也因此unavoidable經常是想到「無法避免的」時，
會下意識反應在腦中的單字。
unevitable相較之下沒有那麼初階，
但unevitable和unavoidable一樣，
都是「不可避免的、難以避免的」之意．
- the inevitable 無可避免的事
- inevitable result 難以避免的結果
- inevitable consequence 難以避免的結果
inevitable除了上述的搭配外，
也經常使用這樣的句型：It’s inevitable that S+V

We can understood the accident was really inevitable.
我們可以理解那場意外的發生是難以避免的。
【例句】
Death is the inevitable and unavoidable conclusion of senescence.
死亡是必然且難以避免的結局。

unwilling / reluctant 不願意的、不情願的
willing是願意的、樂意的，
unwilling就是不願意的、不情願的，
兩者的用法都是 be willing / unwilling to Vr
而unwilling的超好用替代詞則是reluctant，
意思一樣是不情願的、不願意的，
用法也和unwilling一樣，是：be reluctant to Vr

The refugees were reluctant to be taken over by the army.
難民們不願意被軍隊接管。
【例句】
I was not surprised that my sister was reluctant to lend me money.
我不意外我姊姊不願意借我錢。

tired / fatigued 疲勞的、疲倦的
我們都很習慣「疲倦的」就是tired，
卻甚少去思考tired的動詞型態——tire。
tire意思是「（使）感到勞累」，
而fatigue的意思也是「（使）感到疲累」，
因此fatigue的形容詞型態fatigued，和tired互為替代字，
意思都是「疲勞的、疲倦的」。
【例句】
After her husband died, she looked white, fatigued and many years older.
在她丈夫死後，她看起來蒼白又疲倦，且老了好幾歲。
【例句】
If you need, I could arrange massage service for you to relax your fatigued body.
如果你需要的話，我可以為你安排按摩，讓你疲憊的身體得到放鬆。

confuse / perplex 使困惑
perplex是一個大家相對陌生的單字，
在國高中的英文教材裡幾乎不太會出現。
但其實perplex的意思和大家所熟悉的confuse一樣，
都是「使困惑、使茫然」的意思。
【例句】
Her presentation is brief but perplexing.
她的簡報呈現很簡潔但令人困惑。
【例句】
The symptoms of the unidentified disease perplexed the doctors.
這種不明疾病的症狀讓醫生感到困惑。

improve / enhance 改善、增進
improve和enhance都有增進之意，
雖然有一些不同，但大體上的意思都是 make sth better
在大多數語意當中，這兩者都是可以相互代換使用。
【例句】
As a consultant, when you help clients to sell more, you enhance your own reputation.
作為一名顧問，當你協助顧客提升銷售的同時，你也在增進自己的名聲。
【例句】
You need something that can enhance the quality of your life.
你需要可以提升生活品質的東西。

think / contemplate 思考
think的意思偏向思考、想，
而contemplate的意思則有沈思、冥思之意，
簡言之就是contemplate要花比較多時間想。
contemplate後面如果要接動詞，
要使用動名詞（Ving）的形式，
contemplate Ving 表示「考慮做某事」，
如：contemplate starting my own bussiness（考慮創業）
contemplate經常用於：「too...to...太⋯⋯以致於無法⋯⋯」句型
像是：
too horrible/horrific/horrifying/awful/dreadful to contemplate 可怕到無法思考
此外，contemplate還有一個固定搭配用法，
contemplate your navel，意思是「花過多時間關注自身」，
有一點類似於自我為中心思考的意思。

I am contemplating writing an autobiography.
我正在考慮寫自傳。
【例句】
He didn't want to contemplate what made his mother a bloody killer.
他不願去深思是什麼讓他的媽媽變成一個冷血的殺手。

comfort/console 安慰、安撫
comfort和console意思都是「安慰、安撫」，
在許多語境之下都可以交替使用。
console的固定搭配用法：
console yourself with something 用⋯⋯安慰自己
【例句】
She always consoles herself with luxury goods.
她總是用奢侈品來安慰自己。
【例句】He didn't know how to console his upset girlfriend who was just fired.
他不知道如何安慰他那剛被解僱的沮喪女友。
