【醫學英文】只聽過B型肝炎嗎？其實還有C型肝炎！疾病相關英文大解密

今天要看的是諾貝爾醫學獎（Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine），
2020年度的得獎者是：
亞爾特（Harvey J. Alter）、萊斯（Charles M. Rice）和霍頓（Michael Houghton），
三位學者因為發現C型肝炎病毒（Hepatitis C virus）而共同獲獎。
閱讀是一項重要的核心能力，
所以讓我們先看諾貝爾醫學獎的新聞稿第一、二段：
This year’s Nobel Prize is awarded to three scientists who have made a decisive contribution to the fight against blood-borne hepatitis, a major global health problem that causes cirrhosis and liver cancer in people around the world.
Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice made seminal discoveries that led to the identification of a novel virus, Hepatitis C virus. Prior to their work, the discovery of the Hepatitis A and B viruses had been critical steps forward, but the majority of blood-borne hepatitis cases remained unexplained. The discovery of Hepatitis C virus revealed the cause of the remaining cases of chronic hepatitis and made possible blood tests and new medicines that have saved millions of lives.

今年的諾貝爾獎將獎項頒給三位對肝炎做出傑出貢獻的科學家。透過血液傳染的肝炎是全球重要的健康議題，肝炎在世界各地造成肝硬化或是肝癌。

hepatitis 肝炎
肝炎顧名思義即是肝臟（liver）發炎，
比較主要且常見的是A 型、B 型和C 型（hepatitis）。
一般來說，肝炎初期多半沒有任何症狀，
等到肝炎進一步惡化，可能就會出現以下症狀（symptom）：
- muscle and joint pain 肌肉與關節疼痛
- a high temperature 體溫高
- feeling unusually tired all the time 總是覺得異常疲倦
- vomiting 嘔吐

blood-borne 血液傳染
borne的意思是「傳播的、攜帶的」，
像是waterborne就是指透過水傳播的，
blood-borne infection就是指血液傳染的感染，
此種感染泛指透過共用針頭（sharing needles）、性接觸（sexual contact），
或是哺乳母乳將血液中的病毒散播出去。
關於病毒的傳播，又分為直接傳播（direct transmission）與間接傳染（indirect transmission），

肝（liver）是掌管新陳代謝的重要器官，
肝的相關疾病一直對人類造成死亡威脅。
像是台灣的十大死因（ten leading causes of death）：
- malignant tumors (cancer) 惡性腫瘤（癌症）

- cerebrovascular disease 腦血管疾病
- diabetes糖尿病
- accidents and adverse effects 事故傷害
