形容人的性格、習慣與智商（Describing People & Behavior）
birdbrain 傻瓜、笨蛋、草率的人
“birdbrain” 的意思是「蠢人、笨蛋」，用來形容一個人頭腦簡單、做事草率。早期人們認為鳥的腦袋較小、比較笨，這個說法因此誕生。
【例句】
I spent ten minutes looking for my glasses before realizing they were on my head. What a birdbrain I am!
我花了十分鐘找眼鏡，最後才發現它就在我頭上。我真是個笨蛋。
early bird 早起的鳥兒
只要是早八或早九的課，小編最常跟教授說 “I’m not an early bird.”，因為真的醒不過來 😇
“early bird” 其實是由一句諺語縮短而來，相信大家對這句諺語也不陌生，就是 “The early bird catches the worm.”，中文為「早起的鳥兒有蟲吃」。
有早起的鳥兒，就會有夜貓子，英文形容夜貓子為 “night owl”，直譯為「夜晚的貓頭鷹」。
【例句】
The early birds got the best seats at the concert.
早到的人搶到了演唱會最好的位置。
促銷優惠常見的「早鳥票、早鳥優惠」也都與這個說法有關，分別為 “early bird tickets（早鳥票）” 與 “early bird special/discount（早鳥優惠）”。
【補充】另一個表達「早起者」的英文為 “morning person”。

eat like a bird 小鳥胃
“eat like a bird” 的概念與中文的「小鳥胃」一樣，形容一個人的胃口極小，吃幾口就飽。
那如果像小編這種吃超多的人，我們就可以說自己 “eat like a horse”。如果你肚子快餓扁了，可以說 “I could eat a horse”，當然我們不可能真的吃下一匹馬，所以這裡不用 can ，而是用 could。

【例句】
I don't know how he stays healthy when he eats like a bird.
我不知道他吃那麼少怎麼還能保持健康。
人際關係與社交溝通片語（Social & Communication Phrases）
A little bird told me 我聽說、有人告訴我
如果不想透露消息來源，想賣關子、保持神祕的時候，就可以用 “A little bird told me” 開頭。
這個說法就像是童話故事裡的藍色小鳥，跑到主角窗邊通風報信，八卦的感覺一下就來了！

birds of a feather flock together 物以類聚、臭味相投
中文裡說的「物以類聚，人以群分」，在英文裡則是將這個說法比喻為 “birds of a feather flock together”，直譯為「有著相同羽毛的鳥會聚在一起」。
名詞 “feather” 意為「羽毛」；動詞 “flock” 則意為「群聚」。
“birds of a feather flock together” 除了可以形容「志同道合」的朋友，也會用於較負面的形容，表示「臭味相投」。

【例句】
Most of the troublemakers hang out together. Birds of a feather flock together.
那些愛惹麻煩的人總是混在一起，真是人以群分。
take someone under your wing 呵護某人
當小雞受到威脅，母雞就會張開翅膀保護小雞，在英文中，當我們想保護某人，可以說 “take someone under your wing”，展現我們在老鷹抓小雞裡當母雞的威嚴（？
【例句】
When I moved to a new country, a local family took me under their wing.
在我搬到新國家後，當地有個家庭很照顧我。
The birds and the bees 性知識、性教育
當大人難以向小孩開口談性，英文世界裡可以用 “The birds and the bees” 來形容「性知識」。
鳥兒築巢育雛，代表女性排卵；蜜蜂傳花授粉，象徵男性受精，以此借用大自然的現象來聊性的話題。
【例句】
Although the kids are still young, we should tell them about the birds and the bees.
雖然孩子們年紀還小，我們也該向他們講解基本的性知識了。
日常處事法則與生活諺語（Proverbs for Life & Strategy）
kill two birds with one stone 一石二鳥
“kill two birds with one stone” 就是中文「一石二鳥」的原句，中文還有其他表達相同之意的成語，像是「一箭雙鵰」、「一舉兩得」。
【例句】
He killed two birds with one stone and visited his daughter in Paris on business.
他到巴黎出差時順便拜訪女兒，簡直一舉兩得。
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. 百鳥在林，不如一鳥在手
“A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” 這句諺語的翻譯為「百鳥在林，不如一鳥在手」，常用來勸人知足現況，別因為貪心而失去一切。
“A bird in the hand” 代表有把握的事情；“two birds in the bush” 則是還沒到手的東西。
【例句】
You may be unsatisfied with your current job, but don’t quit immediately thinking you can find a better one. After all, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
你或許不滿意現在的工作，但別認為你能找到更好的就馬上辭職。畢竟，百鳥在林，不如一鳥在手。
free as a bird 自由如鳥
英國傳奇樂團披頭四（The Beatles）曾於 1995 年推出一首單曲《Free As a Bird 》，中文譯名便是「自由如鳥」。
“free as a bird” 用來形容一個人像鳥一樣自由，想飛到哪裡就到哪裡。
【例句】
After quitting his stressful job, he felt as free as a bird.
辭掉壓力很大的工作後，他感覺像鳥一樣自由。
距離與空間描述用語（Distance & Directions）
bird’s-eye view 鳥瞰
從上往下看，中文稱作「鳥瞰、俯瞰」，而英文的表達更加形象化，為 “bird’s-eye view”，直譯為「鳥的視角」。
【例句】
You can get a bird’s-eye view of Taipei from the top of Taipei 101.
你可以從台北101頂端俯瞰台北。
as the crow flies 直線距離
“crow” 意為「烏鴉」，當鳥類飛行時，牠們不需要考慮地面轉彎、越河的問題，只需要直線飛行到目的地，因此 “as the crow flies” 就用來指稱「直線距離」。
【例句】
The village is only five miles away as the crow flies, but it takes an hour to drive there.
這個村莊直線距離只有五英里，但開車要一個小時。
