【英文片語】準時是 in time 還是 on time？15 個關於時間的英文片語，看完這篇再也不搞混

一開始學英文的基本單字裡一定有 “time”，只要是關於時間都和這個字脫不了關係。而英文中有許多跟它搭配的介系詞與動詞，所以 “time” 這個字其實非常實用。
但是一堆介系詞到底要怎麼分？今天 engoo 就來幫大家做一個總整理！
against time 分秒必爭
介系詞 “against” 有「對抗、反對」的意思，與時間對抗就是「分秒必爭」，每一秒都很重要！而我們可以把 “time” 取代成 “the clock”，意思相同。
【例句】
The competitors are racing against time, with only two hours to prepare five meals.
參賽者分秒必爭，他們只有兩個小時來準備五個餐點。

against to all expectations 出乎意料地
against all odds 克服一切困難
all the time 一直、常常
“all the time” 直譯為「全部的時間」，也就是「一直、常常」的意思，可以用來表達一個人的習慣。這個片語在母語者當中使用率很高，所以一定要學起來！！
【例句】
She is complaining all the time, which annoys me.
她一直在抱怨，讓我很煩。
He’s at the gym all the time, so you’ll probably find him there.
他常常待在健身房，所以你可能可以在那找到他。
of all time 有史以來
跟上一個片語一樣都有用到 “all”，可是卻有著完全不同的含義。“of all time” 這個字通常與 “one of the most/-est …” 一起搭配使用，表達「有史以來最 … 」，這個搭配很適合使用在英文作文當中，還可以炫一下技 😎
【例句】
Grace Kelly is considered one of the most beautiful women of all time.
Grace Kelly 是公認有史以來最美的女人。
Woodblock printing is regarded as one of the greatest inventions of all time.
雕版印刷是有史以來最偉大的發明。

at times 有時、偶爾
“at times” 有點難從字面上猜出他的意思，這邊的 “time” 加了複數型態的 “s”，表示不是只有一次，如此一來我們可以把這個片語聯想成「有時候、偶爾」，畢竟有時候學語言就是要靠聯想！
【例句】
At times, people make mistakes even when they're doing what they're good at.
人們有時還是會在自己擅長的事情上犯錯。
Since changing jobs, I’ve been feeling stressed at times, and I’m not sure why.
自從換工作後，我偶爾會感覺到壓力，但我不知道原因為何。
【同義詞】sometimes, occasionally, once in a while, from time to time

at the same time 同時
這一個片語的意思如同字面，指的是「在同一段時間」，也就是「同時」。
【例句】
Don't try to do everything at the same time; you might screw up all of them.
不要想著同時處理所有事情，不然你可能把一切都搞砸。
We should do our tasks at the same time to get through this level.
我們應該同時做我們的任務，這樣才能突破這關。

at the time 在當時
定冠詞又來了！其作用為「指稱特定的人、事、物」，所以將這裡的 “the time” 理解成「某段特定的時間」，那 “at the time” 也就是「在當時那段時間」。
【例句】
It was a brilliant idea at the time.
這主意在當時聽起來很棒。
At the time, we thought they were going to get married.
當時我們都以為他們會結婚。
on time 準時、按時
介系詞 “on” 表示「在 … 之上」，和 “time” 搭配起來變為「準時」的意思，我們可以聯想成在時間內到達約定地點。
【例句】
She’s never on time, always late.
她從來不會準時到，永遠會遲到。
【同義詞】punctually
in time 及時地
跟 “on time” 不一樣，”in time” 表示在一切來不及之前「及時趕上、剛好壓線」。
【例句】
He hit the brakes just in time. No one gets hurt.
他及時踩了煞車，沒有人受傷。
The doctor gave the patient the right treatment just in time.
醫生及時給予病患治療。
in no time 很快地
已經學到上一個片語 “in time” 是「及時」的意思，那加上一個 “no” 用來表示「沒有」，所以 “in no time” 意思為「很快地」，與 “very quickly” 同義。
【例句】
In no time, you will find out he's not as perfect as you think.
很快地，你就會發現他不是你想像中的那麼完美。
no time to lose 沒時間浪費了
如同字面上的意思 “no time to lose” 就是「沒有時間浪費了」。
【例句】
Hurry up! We have no time to lose. We must arrive at the airport on time to catch our flight.
快一點！我們沒時間浪費了。我們要準時到機場才能趕上飛機。
about time 是時候
“about” 除了有關於的意思，也有「幾乎、差不多」之意。由此可知 “about time” 意為「差不多是時候」。
【例句】
It’s about time for the other side to respond.
是時候讓另一方做出回覆了。
bide your time 靜候佳機
“bide” 等於 “wait for”，兩者都是「等待」的意思，所以 “bide you time” 可以理解為「等待屬於你的時間、機會」，延伸為「靜候佳機」。
【例句】
He’s biding his time, waiting for revenge.
他在等待復仇的機會。
Bide your time, and then give it a good shot.
等時機到了就全力以赴。
live on borrowed time 苟延殘喘
時間無法借來，英文將大難不死比喻成「活在借來的時間」，在預計死亡時間後或遇重大災難時死裡逃生存活下來的人，有如向上天借了更多時間活在人世。
【例句】
My grandpa ignored the diagnosis and is now truly living on borrowed time.
我爺爺無視診斷內容，現在正苟延殘喘地活著。
mark time 混時間
我們無法從字面上看出 “mark time” 是什麼意思，不過當我們開始注意時間，會覺得時間過得很慢，每數一秒就像在給時間做記號。
【例句】
I feel like I’m just marking time in this job.
我覺得我做這個工作只是在混時間罷了。
take sb’s time 慢慢來
“take sb's time” 並不是「拿別人的時間」，而是請對方慢慢來喔！
【例句】
There is enough time for you to finish your project. Just take your time and don't panic.
時間夠讓你完成專題，慢慢來、不要慌。
