【主題單字】2022年度十大熱門財金詞彙（上）：NFT、通膨、狗狗幣你知多少？

今天Engoo帶你一覽網路上的十大財金詞彙！
capital gains tax 資本利得稅
capital gains tax（CGT）是指「資本利得稅」，
CGT是稅金的一種，專針對資本商品買賣獲得的利潤課稅，
資本商品（capital assets）像是股票、債券、房地產、貴金屬、珠寶等等。
資本利得稅還可以分為長期和短期，
long-term capital gains tax和short-term capital gains tax。
【例句】
The added bonus is free of income tax and capital gains tax.
額外的獎金不需要課徵所得稅和資本利得稅。
【例句】
The president suggested cutting the capital gains tax as part of the economic recovery from COVID-19.
總統建議削減資本利得稅，作為COVID-19經濟復甦的手段之一。
一句英文解釋capital gains tax：
“The capital gains tax is a levy on the profit from an investment that is incurred when the investment is sold.”

fiat money 法定貨幣
fiat是一個正式的字眼，意思是（當權者的）法令、命令，
fiat money則是「法定貨幣」之意，
貨幣依靠政府的法令，使其成為有購買力的貨幣，
該貨幣本身並無內在價值（intrinsic value）。
與fiat money相對的概念是commodity money，
意思是商品貨幣，本身具有內在價值，
像是銅錢、銀兩、金幣等等。
【例句】
People sometimes will question the validity of the fiat money system.
有時候人們會質疑法定貨幣系統的有效性。
一句英文解釋fiat money：
“Fiat money is a government-issued currency that is not backed by a commodity such as gold.”

inflation 通貨膨脹
inflation是指「通貨膨脹」，
意思是貨幣的購買力隨著時間下降，
像是過去你可以用一百塊買到30隻棒棒糖，
但現在一百塊只能買到20隻，這就是一種inflation。
與inflation相反的意思是deflation（通貨緊縮），
貨幣的購買力在一段時間內上升。
【例句】
All attempts to control inflation have failed.
所有試著控制通貨膨脹的手段都失敗了。
【例句】
If inflation stays elevated for too long, it can lead to hyperinflation.
如果通貨膨脹持續升高過久，可能會導致惡性通貨膨脹。
一句英文解釋inflation：
“Inflation is the decline of purchasing power of a given currency over time.”

HODL 長期持有不賣出
在加密貨幣（cryptocurrency）的世界裡，
有個持有者的交易態度是買進後長期不賣出，
在社群發佈的文章把“hold”一直寫成“HODL”，
因此後來大家把「相信虛擬貨幣願意長期持有」稱為HODL，
也有人解釋為“hold one for dear life”。
一句英文解釋HODL：
“HODL originated as a misspelling of "HOLD" in an online post, and has come to mean "hold on for dear life".”

child tax credit 子女抵稅額
還沒繳稅的人可以沒感覺，
但對於已經工作、開始繳稅的人來說，
這種所謂的抵稅額可是非常有感覺！
child tax credit是指如果你有未成年的小孩，
就可以少繳一點稅。
一句英文解釋child tax credit：
“The child tax credit is a tax benefit granted to taxpayers for each qualifying dependent child.”

ESG 環境、社會與企業治理
ESG的全名是environment, social, and governance，
是聯合國在2004年提出的概念，作為企業經營的指標。
E是environment 環境保護，包含污染防治、溫室氣體排放等；
S是social社會責任，包含勞資關係、勞工關係等等；
G是governance公司治理，包含商業倫理、競爭行為等等。
ESG你也可以想像成「永續投資」。
一句英文解釋ESG：
“Environment, social, and governance are a set of standards for a company’s operations that socially conscious investors use to screen potential investments.”

Dogecoin 狗狗幣（多吉幣）
在2021年的加密貨幣世界裡面，
狗狗幣無疑是一個熱門且當紅的議題。
Dogecoin是加密貨幣的一種，大家多半稱其為狗狗幣，
在2021年受到人們的目光親賴，大幅度瘋狂增長。
一句英文解釋Dogecoin：
“Dogecoin is a peer-to-peer, open-source cryptocurrency. It is considered an altcoin and an almost sarcastic meme coin.”
*peer-to-peer 點對點
*open-source 開源
*altcoin 競爭幣（比特幣之外的加密貨幣）
*sarcastic 諷刺的、挖苦的 (adj.)

NFTs 非同質化代幣
NFTs的全稱是Non-fungible tokens，
fungible意思是「易於交易的」。
同值化資產你可以想像成「貨幣」，
每一個都有相似的外觀與本質，因此可輕易被相互交換；
非同質化資產你可以想像成一些收藏品，
每一個都獨一無二所以難以用同類資產相互交換。
而NFTs則是為藝術或數位資產提供獨一無二的證明，
當一枚NFT被鑄造出來後，可以在市場上買賣，
就像真實的藝術品那樣，只不過場域是在網路世界，
並且因為有證明，可以保證其為真。
此外，哪怕我們都知道NFTs的中文是非同質化代幣，
但沒有人會這樣稱呼，大家都叫它為“NFT”。
一句英文解釋NFTs：
“NFTs are cryptographic assets on a blockchain with unique identification codes and metadata that distinguish them from each other.”

short interest 空單餘額
在金融市場裡面，你會聽到所謂的做多、做空，
做多就是買進並且期待它漲價，低買高賣，
做空就是買進並且期待它下跌，高賣低買，
而在英文裡面，我們叫做多為long，做空為short。
而short interest是指空單餘額，
也就是「交易者借券賣出，仍未買回的總數量」。
空單餘額可以做什麼？
因為做空的概念是先高價賣再低價買，賺取中間的價差，
所以會「買」的時候，一定是你心目中認為的低點，
如果說做空的人都選擇不買回，表示大家認為這檔股票還會跌，
市場上保持悲觀（pessimistic）態度，認為其未達低點。
【例句】
Short interest on the stock is rising, suggesting investors are betting on further declines to come.
這檔股票的空單餘額持續上升，表示投資者賭它未來還會進一步下跌。
【例句】
The results show that all the models cannot explain dynamic change of the short interest rate.
結果表明所有的模型都不能解釋空單餘額比例的動態變化。
一句英文解釋short interest：
“Short interest is the number of shares that have been sold short but have not yet been covered or closed out.”

conservatorship 監護
conservatorship監護是法律上的用字，
意思是法官指定一個人去管理某人的個人事務，
包含財務或是日常生活，
多半是因為那個人未成年或被認定無行為能力。
負責監護的人是所謂的監護人conservator，
受到監護的人則稱為被監護人conservatee。
和conservatorship這個單字最知名的相關案件，
莫過於知名美國歌星小甜甜布蘭妮（Britney Spears），
有興趣的人可以自己去查查她長年受到監護的新聞～
【例句】
The superstar's case has thrown a spotlight on thorny issues around conservatorship.
這位超級巨星的案件引起人們對於監管這個棘手問題的注意。
【例句】
If the conservatorship is established, the conservatee loses many civil rights most of us take for granted.
如果監護成立，被監護人會失去我們視為理所當然的許多公民權利。
一句英文解釋conservatorship：
“Conservatorship is a legal status to which a court appoints a person to manage the financial and personal affairs of a minor or incapacitated person.”
