【聽歌學英文】複習 Bruno Mars 演唱會必唱催淚金曲 - "When I Was Your Man" 歌詞！

高雄又將迎來另一位國際大咖歌手！

Bruno Mars（火星人布魯諾）宣布在 2024 年 9 月 8 日來台開唱，

繼上次 2018 巡演後，這次為大家帶來「Bruno Mars Live in Kaohsiung」！

這次大家就一起來複習分手、心碎時必聽的《When I Was Your Man》，

並從中學英文吧！

請注意，歌詞容易讓人破防：（

MV 並沒有什麼特別的，就只是 Bruno Mars 自彈自唱，

但看到歌詞，配上他充滿感情的嗓音，真的會讓人令人心碎：（

這首歌沒有官方中文翻譯，不過小編看過有人譯作《當我還是你的他》，

覺得很貼切！

Verse 1 第一段主歌

Same bed, but it feels just a little bit bigger now

同一張床，但現在睡起來感覺更空了

Our song on the radio, but it don't sound the same

廣播在放我們最愛的歌，但聽起已經不一樣了

When our friends talk about you, all it does is just tear me down

和朋友們談到妳時，我感覺就像被摧毀

'Cause my heart breaks a little when I hear your name

因為每次聽到妳的名字，心就隱隱做痛
（光是第一段主歌就騙到小編的眼淚了ＱＱ）

Tear sth./sb. down｜摧毀（某物／某人）

這邊的 “tear” 和眼淚是同樣拼法，但不同讀音，唸作 /ter/，

當動詞指「撕碎」，如 “tear a piece of paper into half”（把一張紙撕一半），

三態為 "tear-tore-torn"。

片語 “tear down” 指「摧毀」、「拆除」，如 “tear the building down”（拆除建築物）。

這邊用在人，指「讓某人崩潰」。

【例句】

The urban renewal begins by tearing down the old buildings in town.

都更計畫開始第一步是先拆除城裡的老舊建築。

Should have Vpp｜應該要......（但沒有這樣做）

「Should have＋過去分詞」的句型屬於「與過去事實相反的假設」，

白話一點就是「該這樣做，但那時沒這樣做」，

非正式書寫常會縮寫成 “should’ve”，

唸起來像 “shoulda”，所以網路上也常看到這樣的拼法。

副歌講述主角懊悔當初沒有好好把握那位愛人，

已經分開了才想到要如何對她好，但都來不及了：（

每次閉上眼，就無法釋懷

Pride｜驕傲、自負

名詞 “pride” 中文可以翻作「驕傲」，正面和負面意思都有。

在這邊指的是負面的「自負、自大」。

另外片語 “take pride in sth.” 是「以...感到自豪」

【例句】

He was a successful businessperson until his pride got the best of him and led to a major wrong decision.

他曾經是一位成功的商人，直到他被自負吞噬，做出了一項致命的決定。

We, as the leading brand in the industry, take pride in our electric vehicle series.

我們作為產業龍頭，對於自己的電動車系列感到非常自豪。

Haunt｜糾纏

動詞 "haunt" 指「糾纏」、「陰魂不散」，通常會用在「鬼魂糾纏某人」，

鬼屋英文就是 "haunted house"。

也可以用來說「某事在某人腦中揮之不去」，

歌詞指的是「主角的錯誤讓前任離開」一事一直糾纏著他。

【例句】

He's the only survivor in that air crash, and he's been haunted by that memory after that.

他是該起空難唯一生還者，自那之後那段回憶一直在他腦中揮之不去。
